We have been to Fuerteventura 10 times and know very well how windy the island can be but this was extreme. We caught a bus from Jandia which took us to the hotel Melia Gorriones. We then walked down towards the beach, having seen the spectacular part of it from the road on the way in. We walked and we... More

Each day during our very brief 5 day stay we managed a 4 mile walk along this beautiful beach. Wonderful views and wildlife, chipmunks in the rocks.

Although there are a few rocky areas (which add more to the beauty of the place than cause any real nuisance) Sotavento beach is truly world class. White powder sands, green crystal seas and a beautiful outlook to the backdrop of mountains makes for a spectacular place to take a dip or watch the world go by.

Although I didn't have the luck to see it when it was at its highest point, I did see several pools that were amazingly beautiful. People were windsurfing or simply walking for a long time to reach the rim of the beach.

The beaches were lovely. Quite windy and rocky but it is a volcanic island. They were ideal for wind surfing which can be seen all over. As long as you have swim shoes there is not a problem. even with the wind the temperature was hot. The sun shone every day and I was told there is only 5 days... More

Visited Sotavento beach in June 2016. Huge beach that stretches for miles with very few people around. Great to watch the windsurfers having fun in the fairly strong winds. Remember to check the tide tables and go when the tide is high to see the lagoons.

Been to the area quite a few times and still look forward to next time. Beautiful beach at sotavento. Costa calma beach nice also. Re windsurfing... its choppy and tricky if your a learner...make sure you go when the lagoon (tidal) has water .
