Scenic

Visited in winter, so very few people around. Plenty of good walks around the lakes. Toilet facilities for public near the camping ground. Boat launching ramp and ski lane easily accessible. Water looked clean and clear.

Stunning part of NZ, colours are surreal

Beautiful fresh water lake with golden Sandy beach. You can wade out 50-60m into the shallows and just be mesmerised by how clear the water is and how the light bounces through it. Really great spot for a picnic and there’s an outdoor play area for the kids. You’ll feel like you’ve missed out if you don’t check this out whilst on holiday in the area.

A great family destination

I thought that this was a lovely place; we had a picnic lunch on a barbecue table near the lake. I do think it would be useful to have a few more of these tables. The lake and shore were very safe for those with yachts and for swimming. The campground was busy, and you need to book a place for a weekend slot in the summer.

Beautiful fresh water lakes
Jan 2021
There are three fresh water natural lakes, Kai Iwi, Taharoa, and Waikere. The largest lake is Taharoa Lake, it is the lake where visitors usually swim and do all water plays and water sports. Spacious white sandy beach, turquoise crystal clear blue water, with changing room and children playground, and at 100m away, a camping ground is available, what a lovely combination. You just need to traveling approx. 35 km north from Dargaville. Moreover visitors can do fishing trout here with proper license and limitations. On top of this, there are several hiking and cycling tracks around this domain.

Clear and Stunning!!!
Feb 2021 • Couples
Well worth the detour on our way home, I have seen people posting these lakes and have been wanting to come for ages and I finally made it!!

Honestly it’s clear and beautiful just like the photos show, we unfortunately came on a cloudy day but that still didn’t dampen the bliss of the water and our surroundings.

You can drive up and park right by the lake too which is helpful for those with young children.

A must do and we will be definitely going back at some stage.

Breathtaking views

The most spectacular views we've seen in a long time. We travel often and been to many countries and this view was something that we recommend for people to visit. Weather was not so good but was still able to take some photos

Is that it?
Jul 2020 • Friends
Maybe it was the lack of brilliant blue sky or the lake levels are low or it was too windy or the stars weren't aligned, but these lakes were totally underwhelming!
