great place to see!

Located in a strict centre, it is absolutely a must! Government is doing a great job in maintaining original buildings and repairing them, so more and more parts of Citadel are opened to visitors. Opening hours: 9:00 - 17:30

Citadel - Erbil

This is the centre piece of Kurdish culture. It is the old town that is exciting; full of trading shops and tea houses. Haggle over all purchases!

The citadel is under re-construction, but still interesting exhibits. It takes about a hour to go round, enjoy1

Definitely worth a visit to the Citadel, it is full of history and is the main site to visit when you are in Erbil. But most buildings inside of the Citadel are under constructions so cant really visit. But the view from the Citadel to see the Erbil Plaza is a beautiful scenery !

It's not Iraq, it's Kurdistan!

It was at Ramadan last year and late at night, but I was there again this year, the Citadel of Hawler was bustling with people and the markets were crowded. The Citadel is beautiful and ancient. I went all over Kurdistan with a member of the Yezidi community and the welcome we got everywhere was so warm.

A UNESCO world heritage

It was a nice sunny day to visit and explore the citadelle. The citadelle looked interesting. The renovation and preservation work in progress, prevented us from visiting the whole citadelle. But it was clean, interesting to walk around and try to imagine how life was in these houses, streets and alleys. There was a nice museum to visit within the citadelle. kids were interested to ask about the different stones displayed and learn the names of it. I hope that the work in progress brings back the splendeur of this citadelle.

Excellent source is history, truly "cradle of civilization" worthy. Be sure to visit the kurdish textile museum. Would love to experience a "behind the scenes" history tour.

Nice scenery. Very crowded. Avoid Friday/Saturday as most of the attractions in the citadel are closed but you can still walk inside and enjoy the view.

Being plunged into history is always exciting but going back 5,000 BC is really mind blowing. The restoration of the Citadel are ongoing and the respect for the original design including material is to be commended. well worth the visit.
