The lake has a beautiful colour especially when the sun hits the surface. It has a good kitesurfing spot. Their are no motorboats on the lake except the ferry to preserve the quality of the water. The lake is long and has several cities on the shores. On the Maurach site unfortunately no really swimming areas or terrace were you can grap a drink and enjoy the beauty of the lake. Their is though a nice walking and biking path along the lake were you can relax and enjoy the surroundings.

A very scenic, stunningly beautiful mountain lake. There are some public beaches at various places along the shoreline. Water is of course quite chilly even in summer. Cycling around the lake is great fun and can be done on the eastern side

This lake is great as a warmup hike.
Here some practical tip:
Park your car in Achenkirch (next to the Scholastica ship station), you can also do the same in Pertisau. The parking is 5€ for the whole day.
Then you hike: Gaisalmsteig / Mariensteig to Gaisalm.
It will take you one hour of a great hike (along the lake, next to amazing small waterfalls) to Gaisalm. Here you can enjoy a good lunch.
Level differences of total 100m are to be expected, have good shoes.
From Gaisalm there is a much less demanding hike to Pertisau (approx. one hour, 40-50m level differences), much easier than the first section.
From Pertisau you take the ship back to Scholastica (approx. 40 min tour).
We preferred the section Gaisalm - Achenkirch, much more mountain type and better views. In my opinion the views from Achenkirch to Gaisalm are better than in the other direction.

We have chosen to spend three nights this summer at Pertisau on Achensee to enjoy the nature, nice climate and relax which was a part of our three weeks-vacation after a busy year. We were hesitant in the beginning but reading more about this site helped us to make our decision even Pertisau area was fully booked since more than a month before our date of arrival. Me and my family were excited in our way from Wörthersee and Zell am see and expecting to see new things in Austria in general and Pertisau in particular which was very clear by the time we arrived. It was showering and the mountains area was clean, organized and very quite. We arrived in the afternoon to Achenkirch am Achensee and all of us we attracted to this lake between mountains. The site was very attractive and the lake is equipped and ready for relaxation for all people from all ages. There is a special site for camping direcly on the lake beside greenery area where designed for setting and walking around the lake, also there is a special playground for kids including water games. There is a sandy court to play volleyball and many other places. On the other side of the lake, you can rent a small boat at around €7/hr- and sail across the lake. I strongly recommend to rent a bike and make a cycling tour around Achensee. The clean air and very nice climate make Achensee a suitable place to relax. The three major towns on Achensee: Achenkirch, Maurach and Pertisau provide visitors with summer card which enables them to utilize and benefit from all available transportation methods such as buses, boats and steam cog railway to transfer to all of these sites and enjoy all outdoor activities. Making a boat cruise in Achensee is one of the best things you must do in this fabulous lake. It takes around 30 minutes by modern boats to sail from Achenkirch to Pertisau, there is more than a boat operating in this lake in a very organized and punctual trips from early morning to late afternoon. On the boat you can enjoy watching the lake, mountains around and other small sailing boats. The boat serves snak and drinks during the trip and some of them provide free wifi. It is also recommended to leave the lake and explore area around it, Achensee is a home for adventure park attractions which you can explore and enjoy the nature. Our trip to Achensee was memorable and unforgettable.

his has to be one of my favourite places in the Tyrol area - we return time and time again. The boat trip up the Lake, although expensive now, is still not to be missed and this area is probably my most-photographed

There is so much to see and do here, whether you stay in your hotel and relax or decide to hike up the mountains, take the boat around the lake or the local buses to other sights. There are even guided hikes for solo travellers.

One of many beautiful mountain lakes in the area and definitely worth a visit.
The leisure activities on Lake Achensee - varied and something for everyone!
- stroll and dine on the waterfront in Maurach and Pertisau - with wonderful cafes and restaurants right on the shore
- Rent a boat across the lake or rent a boat. There are pedal boats and motor boats
- Endless opportunities for hiking. Around the lake - approx. 24 km. Or take the gondola up a mountain, enjoy the view and go down again, or hike. The descents are well developed and easy to walk on.
- perfect for cycling. Both leisurely routes around the lake, as well as downhill and mountain bike excursions.
- if you feel like swimming, there are many places where it is possible to stay and lay - even when the water is cold, also in summer!
-Paragliding: a great view over the Achensee
Many small excursions nearby, or directly on the lake.
A trip to the Gaisalm can either be done by boat or on foot. The route from Pertisau is easy and also possible with small children or by bike. Coming from Achenkirch, the path is more demanding - steeper, with stairs and definitely not feasible by bike (not even for mountain bikes!).
Even if the water does not shine as fascinatingly as at the Eibsee, it is still worth a trip. A very clear recommendation for the Zillertal, Achensee and the surrounding area. Much more than just a day trip. A wonderful landscape and nature, and so many worthwhile places very close, too.

I went here for three years and I really think this was a fantastic experience! The blue lake, the landscapes, the old coal train, the cycle paths and the walks in the mountains are all to try. I'm very happy to have had the chance to visit such a beautiful place!

We liked our every moments at Achensee, At first we had a cable car ride to Rofan montain (Rofanbahn)when you reach at the top of the mountain you can enjoy lots of activities in both and summer and winter including Flying fox, Para-sailing, Rock-climbing etc. You can see the breathtaking Lake achensee view from the rofan mountain. After that we had a nice walk and good relaxing time at lake Achensee.

Whilst on holiday at Seefeld, we booked a coach excursion to Pertisau, situated by Lake Achensee. It was a fine, sunny day so we took advantage of this to have a round trip on the TIROL Boat, the tickets for which cost 16 Euros for an adult ~ equivalent to about £13. The trip from Pertisau to the end of the Lake lasts about 75 minutes and it is a very peaceful and calm experience, albeit in good weather.
This was our third visit, the previous ones being in rainy conditions, and the views from the boat trips on those occasions were obscured by low cloud. It is essential to have good weather for the best possible experience.
It is a very scenic area to visit and a great attraction for visitors.

Is Achensee good to visit with 15 month old baby? Does the spot offer any water sport or activity like scuba, swimming?

There were families with small children, they were catered to very well at the restaurant however I don't believe they have any activity of the sort.

Hello,
The public transport system works quite efficiently. You can find almost all info about the transportation by clicking the following link:
(I am sorry. Although I shared an useful link. Tripadvisor did not allow me to share. But please make a search about "Pertisau Busfahreplan". The English version is also available)
Have a nice time in Achensee:)

2. the steamer ride at the lake
3. cable ride to mountain top
4. if possible train ride to zelle.
5. stay in a 3bedded room at Achensee, Partisau or ??
Request suggestions

Pertisau will be a good option to stay, however, Achenkirch might be of lower prices but both locations will be of easy access to your attractions.
Enjoy,
Zack
