Driving through the region from Kaikoura to Christchurch and wondering wether to stop for a wine tasting in the area as knew, nothing about the wines produced here and always keen to learn. Decided on Waipara Springs thinking that if they did not want to do the wine tasting we could quite understand as it was getting late. The guy who served us was quite happy to do the tasting and it turned out to be such a lovely experience. The guy, Andrew, happened to be the owner along with his wife. He told us some lovely stories about how his father had started the business in the early 80. The wines were all very pleasant on a hot sunny day, we bought a bottle and had a Pinot gris from the Waipara region with our evening meal in Christchurch. Would have loved to have had a meal in their restaurant, people sat outside in the lovely sun, it was such a nice setting. Thank you Andrew for making us feel very welcome and teaching us about the Waipara wine region.

We cycled the Waipara valley trail and ended up at this winery for lunch. Delicious mains and sumptuous desserts, complemented by good wines. We enjoyed the garden setting and the relaxed atmo sphere. Good service and a great destination.

Today I've stopped by with my wife (in the best possible mood) for a nice lunch...to be ruined by a blond waitress...to be even more specific, quite an arrogant woman...Even though when she asked me how it was, I said it was OK.
Everything was quite unsettled, uncomfortable…On the scale from 1-10, everything was around 3, however, the waitress was big round 0. Lunch for two was around $75.00, however, I would pay a $100.00 just not to go there again, every time I pass this place.
Why all-around mark was just 3 because the service needs to be on a way higher level. From staff uniforms to more friendly, more comfortable seating and a way less defensive waitress.
As said above, I would rather pay not to go there!!!

PS. Message for the waitress: you have no idea what bussy means!!!

Stopped here for lunch and so glad we did.
Great service and great setting.
The white wine platter was very good especially the salmon terrine and the pâté.
Great Chardonnay too! Hope to return.

Love a bit of a wine tasting. Great selection of white wines. Great food for lunch. The owner gave heaps of notes during the tasting, and heaps on the history of the winery itself. Highly recommend.

My wife and I took time to stop off at this lovely vineyard on our way from Christchurch to Picton.

We started with a short wine tasting which was excellent and this prompted us into taking lunch at the vineyard. We chose, and I can heartily recommend this, the seafood platter and it was amazing. Plenty of prawns, calamari, salmon and a whole host of other items served with local bread – delicious! A special mention must go to Gina who served us. she gave us excellent service and was completely in control at all times.

There are a number of vineyards in close proximity along this route but this one is definitely worth calling into for lunch or a light snack if you are passing by on the main state highway number 1.

Stopped for coffee and soft drink for the kids. Lovely surrounds but rude staff who didn't stop talking amongst themselves when we arrived, didn't explain that they only had skim milk even when I requested one skim and one full cream. When I asked which was which I was basically told "too bad you get what you are given" for overpriced and bad coffee this isn't good enough.

Dropped in for a coffee and cake on the way to christchurch. Honestly the four of us thought we weren't supposed to be there. The waitress who served us was so cold and unwelcoming, it was so off putting. We were going to do some tastings but couldn't be bothered. I will say the young girl who brought our food was lovely. Nice looking place but not a good atmosphere.
