This is not state castle but private one restituted in 2006, The castle built in the first half of the 14th century. Close to Melnik, you can get there by public bus (also during the weekend, about every 2 hours) if you come by car there is parking with parking machine, just all day ticket available at the costs of 100 CZK,-. From parking lot is not possible to see the castle. And to reach castle you have to climb for 10-15 minutes, there ar steep stairs, but fortunately quite short Opposite the castle there is bistro and a restaurant Pobuda (with tourist price menu) you can walk up to view point, the second nice view point is if you follow the blue trail from the castle, partly on cobbled road to Kokořín village about 10 minutes. You can choose between two tours circuits. The tour I is guided tour including old palace, ramparts, and tower adult for 100 CZK or just tower, 50,- CZK no guide In cellar there is small gallery with old pictures of area around the castle.

This is a lovely little castle around one hour drive from Prague which is not much on the tourist list.

The castle is really well maintained and if you want to visit inside you will need to pay the entrance fee and wait for the tour to start. You can also skip that and just go into the tower next to the ticket entrance and have a lovely view of the surroundings.

You will see some cars up next to the castle but it should only be for people working there or weddings, unfortunately not the case when we went. In any case just leave your car in the castle's parking down where you pay 60 CZK for whole day. Then just head off the road up to the castle (there are some pink arrows down) and you are there in 15 minutes or so depending if you have small kids with you or not. There are 2 pairs of stairs which are not hard to climb.

You can leave the car in the parking and walk around the village, there are some restaurants which were quite busy when with locals and people on bicycle so I would assume they are quite decent.

All in all a very nice one hour drive from Prague for anybody who wants to get away from the city and doesn't want to go to the more touristic and crowded places like Karstejn.

Not many tourists visit other castles than Karlstejn or Krivoklat in the vicinity of Prague. Castle Kokorin is one of those certainly worthy to be visited. It is small but great for taking many photos and enjoy also views to the surrounding nature. The paid walking tour is not that good, but it is at the same time very cheap as many others at castles not so frequently visited. If you decide to visit this castle, you will need to take a car or some other mode of transportation, because it cannot be reached easily by public transportation. If you want to walk a long distance though, it will be certainly worthy to enjoy a bit of forest around the castle getting there. At the end of a day, it is just around 1-2 km from the closest village and that is not that far.

This nice and typical Bohemia castle proposed short and not too 'I-want-to-know-absolutely-all-about-every-single-person-who-lived-there" type of visits. Which personally is enough for us. I am always puzzled by people who get a sudden thorough interest for every single place they visit on vacation... to forget it as they flight back :) but anyway. Kokorin perfectly fits in the category, the kids loved the <30 minutes walk through, very interactive and demonstrative. We'll come back!

Discovered for our family this small fortress only now and very happy that it happened. Without a car it might be a bit of a headache to find it. Loved everything there - from the astonishing surrounding forests (clean, so colorful in October), to small hiking paths and a pearl of the shell - this small but mighty zamek. I hid the truth from my family that it was almost totally destroyed but to our luck reconstructed. It looks like kept an outstanding good shape and condition since it was built in the 14th century. The spirit is kept as well.

Kokorin is small but well-maintained castle owned by Špaček family. The exhibition is not big but worth visiting because of the beautiful wall paintings and decorations as well as historic interiors of hunter's room and living rooms of the era.
Parking is below the castle, so you will have to either take easier but longer rote up the hill or use pretty steep stairs as a shortcut. Small pets in bags are allowed to enter the exhibition.

Castle Kokorin is situated in Central Bohemian region, approximately 60km north from Prague. The castle is private property open for public. Both castle exterior and interiors are weel kept and renovated. The guided tour is not long app. 3/4 of an hour, so it is fine for families with children. A part of the tour is outside on the fresh air, with nice views on hilly countrysied with green forests. I recommend to combine the trip with walks around the castle, where is a lot of tourist path in forest and along sandstone rocks.

It is a nice caste, the guide and the visit just cost us 2 Euro per person. Unfortunately for us, the guide was a Czech lady who did not speak English. We got some translations on paper instead. It is a nice castle and worth a visit. Be aware: The castle is up a hill, so be aware that you have to be good on your feet. Dogs are allowed, WC and a cafe/canteen are situated at the parking lot at the foot of the castle.

This castle is well hidden between the forests of the Kokorin valley. It's a short walk from the apartments of Korinsky Dul, it self a friendly place and not overrun by foreign tourists. the valley is about one hour walking from Mseno train station.

Kokorin is a very nice little castle situated in the protected area of the same name. The castle is one of the very few well preserved guardian castles in this part of Europe. There is a trail leading to the castle around sandstone rocks that are typical for this area.
The area is easily reachable from Prague by public transport, therefore it might be a good opportunity for a half day trip from the city. One can also visit nearby Melnik.
