A grand walk from the old town later, it was great exploring the impressive bastion that was established around 1685.

Entering through the arched guardhouse, well preserved and restored buildings are to be seen.

Climbing on to the ramparts led to fabulous vistas over the surrounding bucolic countryside. In addition to the emphasis of what a commanding position it holds over all approaches.

Read about the fort online before you go. It has a very long and interesting history and knowing it will make you visit more rewarding. Recently had some refurbishment so it is in good shape. Very nice view in all directions will make you aware of why it was built exactly here.

It's 15 minutes of walk from fortification. Small fort without museums or special attractions. Nothing special, but nice.

Kongsten Fort is rather small but is interesting to go see. The sad thing is that the place is hardly in use as there are very few events going on there, and the fort badly needs some restoration.

Interesting look into historic ground. the view from the fortress is really nice, but be aware og high walls on the backside. The fortress with surroundings is an important part of the Gamlebyen fortress, and you can see the "hided path" leading to Gamlebyen from the edge.

The old fort brings you 100 of years back in the history.None was killed during action here, but many died of diseases. The story says that the amount of beer drunken every day bay the soldiers was up to 8 liters as the water was not drinkable.Must be visited in combination with the fortified town.

Fantastic place to visit to see wildlife and nature and just take a tranquil walk. There are cannons that you can take photos with and the fort is still standing. There is no historical museum or any special attractions associated with but it is still neat to visit.

Not far from the old town, the fortress is on the top of a quite steep hill. It’s a very tiny fort, with a vast garden inside... and nobody around! At least this was our experience, good enough to lay on the grass and relax.

Fredrikstad was the first city in Norway to be founded since the middle ages. King Fredrik II founded it in September 1567. The Fort at Fredrikstad was built in 1663. Positioned guarding the River Glomma.

It has cafes, craft shops and a few small art galleries and museums to browse through. The old fort is really intersting to walk around and then there is the old Fredrikstad with its timber 18th Century buildings,

On one day in May (28)the Fort comes alive as locals dress up and celebrate King Fredrik. I was told by a friend it was to celebrate the day the KIng visited the City but not sure if this is the case but anything for an excuse to celebrate.

Kongsten Fort is a small, but interesting Fortress, just outside the magnificent Old Town of Fredrikstad.
