Beautiful views, lots of vegetation and fresh water to take a good dip.
The time limit is one hour but it is more than enough to go swimming and admire the beauty of the place. It has bathrooms and changing tables.

We enjoyed the day trip here. Ice cold water, but your body adjusts quickly. Great short hike and scenery. The hike is short, but still a little strenuous. 👍🏼 so many varieties of butterflies. Little lizards are hidden in the leaves if you look hard for them. Beautiful day and great amenities too. Changing rooms at the top by waterfall. A+. Bonus perk, our tour bus pulled over to take pictures at the sign for the falls and we saw several varieties of monkeys 🐒❤️

I really recommend going without a tour, it is pretty easy and the natural pool of the waterfall is not very big so it gets crowded easily especially if you want to take pictures. Go early morning, we heard getting a ride back is a bit trickier in the afternoon. Tours arrive around 10:30-11am. Its a nice place if you are in Tarapoto but not worth coming to Tarapoto just for that. I liked it more than our tour to Llamas.
From Tarapoto, you can take a mototaxi (4 soles) to Paradero to take a 'camioneta' to Yurimaguas (Las Cataracas). Bunch of truck or pickup drivers will jump on you. You can hop in the back pickup or if you are lucky inside the car for a confy seat for 3-4 soles per person. 20 minute ride with many curves ( hold on tight) and they will stop at the parking of the waterfall where you can buy your entrance ticket (6 soles per person). After taking a swim in the cool water, you can walk down the road which has nice sceneries but you will walk on the road. You can catch another truck down or if you are lucky even a motortaxi back to Tarapoto.

This tour to the Ahuashiyacu waterfall was my favourite in Tarapoto. Prior to my arrival I checked online what I could do in Tarapoto and I booked various tours on exploorperu. I ended up doing the tour with the local guide Rodrigo, a super nice Peruvian guide with a very open-minded attitude; we had a lot of great conversations.
The way to the waterfall was great, the fauna and flora are spectacular. Watch out for the enormous butterflies, I bet you never saw butterflies that big before! We also went for a quick swim in the waterfall, if you want to do that I'd suggest to bring your towel and also to arrive early so that there are not that many people.

It's a very nice waterfall, 30 minutes away from Tarapoto by motorcycle, the only way to get there is by hiring a tour company or by car. Cars would charge you around 40 soles (roundtrip) but if you are by yourself it might go up til 80. In my case, I arrived to Tarapoto around 11 am (tours to ahuashiyacu leave at 10 am) but the owner of the Mirador hostel called the tour guide and arranged for me to go on his motorbike and for a very reasonable price. The place is really nice you can dive in to the water and feel all the energy of the water, the guide told me that if you go around 5.30 pm or 6 am you can see the local birds rupicola peruvianis or cocks of the rocks. The entrance costs 3 soles.

It’s a nice waterfall with easy access, you need to go up but there are stairs. There are changing rooms by the waterfall so you can enjoy the “pool” and then change. It’s a nice place but a very common touristic attraction therefore gets overcrowded. It is recommended to go early before everyone else is there.

Not far from the city of Tarapoto. After a walk through the jungle, you arrive at the tall and beautiful falls. There is a nice lagoon to swim in, and the water is very cold! It's a nice break from the heat! The water is super deep right under the waterfall, so you can jump from some of the ledges above.

Ahuashiyacu was really nice, you have a little walking before getting to the waterfall (nothing extreme) the views you get while getting there and worth it, I bet you'll feel like a new better person! Don't forget to try the ice creams from Tarapoto, the food and everything is so damn good. Good luck!

Very Hawaii like, but way too crowded on a Sunday. Easy to get to, 20 minutes up the mountain from Tarapoto and a nice 5-6 minute hike to the falls. If you can find a quiet spot, the occasional butterfly is bright blue.
