Historic centre in a quaint village
Aug 2019 • Couples
This is not as the TripAdvisor Map has it in the centre of Salamanca. This is about an hours drive from Salamanca.
You can park just before you get to the main area and walk into the Main Square and not to the small sidestreets where you see the doors with a strange inner and outer doors
Worth meandering up and down the sidestreets and also pay a visit to the little shop by the square where we bought some meat and wine to help support the local community for local people.

Visit of the historical centre of Candelario.
Oct 2018 • Solo
Candelario is an authentically maintained medieval village. The story is that the locals were and still are experts at curing pigs. Look at the doors on the outside of the houses, there is an inner door and then an order of half a door, which had several purposes. For instance when the animals were driven down the street they could not enter the houses, and in winter time if they got snow, they were able to open the bottom to clear the snow. To think about visiting this village could be a problem for people who have difficulties to walk on to the steep street with the old pavements, but otherwise it is a gem of a place to visit, were you have several things to see.

Where is it?? The map is wrong!!
Sep 2018 • Couples
We followed the directions with a 40 minute walk in the blistering sunshine, through Salamanca and into the roughest part of town!
The location marked on the map here is WRONG!
We have since realised that Casco Antiguo is 40 minutes drive OUT of Salamanca!
Thanks guys! I’m sure it’s a great place...we just never found it due to the wrong location details via the TripAdvisor map.

A perfect walk
Aug 2017
Quiet, peaceful, a travel back in time and to other space, full of flavour.
Welcoming neighbors and charming restaurants but not in the centre, which removes that "just another touristic visit" sense making your walk a real experience.
It is also a starting point for a couple of interesting natural routes
NB Wheelchairs can have problems to reach certain parts, but, eh, nothing is perfect

Charming hidden gem
Apr 2017 • Couples
Ooh this place should have many superlatives to describe it. It is a medieval village, authentically maintained and kept petitions. The history is that the locals were and still expert in curing pigs. Look out for the doors outside the houses there is an inner door an then an order half door, which had multi purposes.
One was so that when the animals were herded down the street they couldn't enter homes, second to allow the workers air, as they left the inner door open but locked the outer half door, and thirdly if it snowed you could open the lower outer half to clear the snow. The doors are hundreds of years old, most of them immaculately maintained.
There are open water drains with crisp clear sparkling water running down each street, straight from the mountains, it can be soothing, but I didn't find it so overnight!
There are many restaurants, but don't appear to be when you first arrive.
Walk around the village to soak in the atmosphere, it is utterly charming and has breathtaking views of snow capped mountains behind the village.
The thing to eat here is beef or pork as it's all local and first quality.
Not good for those unable to walk or climb some of the steep streets, but if you can, you will not be sorry!
Will be return, we can't wait, it's got to be done before we get too old to walk up and down the many little alleys and roads in and around the village
A gem of a place!

Absolutely stunning!
Apr 2015 • Family
Candelario is a fine example of a medieval town kept and cared for as it was 300 or 400 years ago. The architecture is still kept with the typical wooden balconies or the double entrance doors. The winding streets and the very curious water channels which were used as a primitive sewage system are unique. There are hidden details in the most unexpected place and is well worth the stroll.
