I have so much gratitude for everything Hridaya school in Mazunte is offering. It is such a special place with teachers and teachings that are deep, authentic, real! With all the noise of the modern world ( external and internal), coming here for a 10 day silent retreat was one of the best gifts I could have given to myself. Here I found experienced caring guides: teachers who "walk the talk," in-depth philosophy, structure and curriculum that have been effective for thousands of others before me, warm-hearted community, affordable tuition, and, most importantly, a glimpse into "Who am I" and "Why am I here?"

I enjoyed the experience so much, as I grew so much. Being triggered by the teacher and thus transcending concepts, sharing with my fellow students, eating delicious food at the Ashram, going to their evening program, e.g. Bhajan, movie night etc. I came wondering what am I doing here and left with the mission of wanting to explore the question What is Love?

I have spent a fair amount of time in Spirtual Communities with very structured teachings and the experience at Hridaya was incredibly balanced. The yoga hatha practice is probably not like any you have had before but by the end of week one, you understand it's importance. The lectures are amazing and the teachers (both yoga and lectures) are incredible experienced.
The facilities were clean and nice. The location was beautiful and central to the area.
I can't wait to go back and learn more!

Most noisy environment i have ever spent a lot of time consistently. And this is for a silent meditation retreat!
Construction noise from all directions. Plus incessant road traffic noise. Hridaya sits right off the main road, and on the top of the hill, meaning all the trucks revving their engines while passing by from both directions.
The most bothersome aspect is that much of the construction was done on site supported need by this organization that is taking in at this time about 150 students dedicated to silent meditation. Very disrespectful.
The course itself was very nice and the teacher very good. The location is terrible. And I find it appalling that they do not give any warning to the participants beforehand that this is an extremely noisy environment.

Thanks for your feedback. We're grateful to hear that you appreciated the retreat and the teacher. We hope you're continuing to feel its echoes.
It's true that Mazunte can get noisy, especially during the high season. We regret that your experience was so affected by it. One of the reasons we're doing construction at the center is to create sound barriers to block street noise. We now stop all on-site construction projects during silent retreats to support retreat participants.
We send many blessings for your spiritual journey!

Was here for a 10-day silent meditation retreat.
It was not silent - lots of noises of a typical Mexican town. Construction, traffic, dogs etc. Retreat rules were only loosely adhered to. Not conducive to a deep meditation experience.
Also, there were almost equal amounts of instruction / talks and meditation. Too much talking for me. Educational content was not very well structured and very spiritual, if not religious (prayers to Jesus Christ etc.).
Accommodation was basic, food was fine.
I do see how this retreat gave a lot of value to some beginner meditators and people with strong religious beliefs. There is a strong community of mostly young people around Hridaya.

Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you weren't able to have a deep experience in the retreat. It's true that the retreat includes many lecture sessions. We find that this is generally needed to provide enough background for people of all experience levels, and we sincerely try to find the right balance between instruction and practice.
We wish you many blessings on your spiritual path.

I am in complete shock at the passive-aggressive treatment I recieved from this center. I was excited to come to mazunte for moudle 1 especially to get back into active yoga practice after a complicated foot fracture, which happened 4 months ago. As the schedual of the course seemed to offer 2 hatha yoga classes a day + lecture and is advertised as a mix of philosophy and physical practice, I thought this would be perfect. Still I was hasitant because I sent a messege to the center about my fracture and recieved no reply regarding my condition. On my arrival to mazunte I even went to talk to one of their teachers and the woman who works in reception to validate that the course would be a good idea for my foot, because I'm careful since the injury. Not only I was recieved in a very aggressive way from the reception, which made me question if this was in fact a yoga retreat center, I was not told by either of the personal that the hatha classes are in fact at least 80% philosophy, with very little movement, and what little movement there was, was mostly standing on the feet the whole time. Needless to say I asked to cancel the course the very next day, realizing this was in fact very bad for my foot and defeated the whole idea of healthy & guided yoga and movement. I felt deceived. By the website, by the teachers, by the receptionist. Especially since I tried to check this very carefully before signing up. As I signed up to the course 4 days in, I know I didn't take anyone else's spot and therefore thought it would be easy to receive my 50$ deposit back, considering my unique condition. But hridaya seems to have no one in charge when it comes to a complaint, except the annoyed receptionist who is no way in charge of the decisions made. When I emailed her the second time asking to pass me to a manager I recieved the delighted response "thank you for your continued emails and requests.." I had also asked a teacher to let me send an email to someone incharge. She just replied "I don't know who is incharge" which is obviously untrue. Eventually she took my mail and promised to pass an email of the responsible person, but he seems not to exist since I never heard back from her. I am beyond humiliated and ashamed for the treatment and lack of accountability I recieved at a place that preeches for humility, compassion, patience, personal responsibility and non-theft.

We are sorry to hear that this was your experience at our center. We welcome feedback and consider your reflections valuable in our continuous effort to refine our systems and how we present the yogic teachings.
As this is not typical of the feedback we receive from students, we have thoroughly contemplated your sharing. We did this both to understand your perspective and to provide greater clarity on ours. Our deepest aspiration in communicating with you now is to foster harmony, openness, and heart-to-heart connection.
Hridaya Yoga’s Module 1 Intensive is a 3.5-week long course. While it is true that the first week has more theoretical content, this sets an important foundation and helps us build to 2-2.25-hour practice sessions. We find that even students who were expecting a more physical practice end up profoundly transformed by the experience of using the body as a tool to understand the deeper dimensions of the being. Our vision and approach to Hatha Yoga, and the way in which the course is structured, is described in detail on our website.
Our intention is to support everyone, regardless of their health status. Although we do not give medical advice, we are experienced at offering modifications and adjustments to meet students where they are. We do this both in Hatha Yoga classes and via one-on-one meetings. The day before the course starts we hold an orientation session at which we explain this, so that all students know that they can reach out if they need support. As you joined after the course began, perhaps this wasn’t clearly explained to you. We regret that.
As a non-profit organization, we are never driven by money, but by the longing to touch as many hearts as possible with authentic spiritual teachings. This is why we keep course fees low and offer scholarships and discounts. Our school is largely run by volunteers, along with people who receive small stipends to cover living expenses.
We understand that by allowing you to join Module 1 on the 4th day it may have seemed like we had ample room in the course. In fact, this is our busiest season and the course had a waiting list—we made the decision to welcome you into the program based on your strong aspiration to join.
Our registration guidelines are in place to provide structure and harmony for everyone at our center. However, although we have clearly stated payment guidelines that include a non-refundable $50 deposit, we feel it is important to carefully consider individual circumstances as they arise. We are grateful for you sharing your experience as this gave us an opportunity for reflection. After reviewing your case, we feel it would be best to make an exception and refund your deposit. Because you did not make a payment for the course, refunding you the $50 USD will be a full refund. The refund has been issued and you have received a personal email confirming this.
Thank you again for your feedback. We wish you a harmonious healing journey and hope you will join us in the future. You will always be welcome.

This Is the Best thing that has ever happened to me. I have been to other silent meditation retreats. This Center has me in love with the teachings, teachers, kitchen staff and all other beings at the Center. I never knew what i was missing before I came to this beautiful place in Mazunte to learn about the spiritual heart Hridaya Meditation Retreat. This journey of 10 days in silence has changed my life. I Will continúe living with an open heart and a clear mind. The compassion and love this Center has provided has me craving More of its puré community. I Will eventually be back. I highly recomend this to any soul who Is venturing for a spiritual path to loving the Essence of life itself. I have been in school for many years and no one has ever taught me what would have been useful in my life like this in such a real, raw way. Clear your mind and open your heart. These beings practise what they preach and you Will see what I mean when you go. No words can truly describe my gratitude for this place. Thank you staff from Hridaya & hope to see you soon. I am home.

I used to try and figure my life out and just sprinkle in my spirituality . After the 10 day silent meditation experience my spiritual path is now my main focus and my life can sprinkle in where it needs. Almost 2 wks post retreat I still feel the most peace and trust Ive ever felt. It actually stuck. Shifted me to another frequency.
Great food.

I knew I found my spiritual home after only a few days at Hridaya. I went for Module 1, and could not have imagined a more profound, beautiful experience. The style of asana (yoga) was new to me, and really felt powerful-- I had never experienced the energies of my chakras until this style of yoga! Not only did the style of yoga (and meditation) speak to me on a deep level, the teachers were incredible. They are special people, truly living a yogic life, and I learned so much from them. I highly recommend taking a course here.

It was certainly not what I expected - but I got something more beautiful, special! The teachings dip deep into the yogic philosophy. The teachers and all other karma yogis as well as the community are very beautiful beings. Thank you so much for this warm and welcoming experience that helped me a lot and inspired me to go further.

Is your retreat taking covid precautions
Hridaya_Yoga
Mazunte
Hi, Mark,
Thanks for asking. We have limited the capacity of our courses so that we can honor social distancing even in the halls. We require mask wearing throughout the property (with the exception being when seated on the mat or eating—with distancing, of course). Our halls have very good ventilation (ocean breezes) and are sanitized regularly. Everyone who joins us must provide information about their own potential exposure to the virus so we can assess risks and offer delayed enrollment as needed. Please email us if you'd like any more information about safety measures. Love!
Wonderful to see all the positive posts! I've been hearing about your center for several years now and considering coming in 2019. I love the rare and precious opportunity you provide to immerse yourself in heart centered, meditative practice, nature, quiet and community. I am a 66 yr young woman who has been practicing Yoga and Meditation for 40 years and teaching for 20. I am very open to learning from your practices- I experienced some Hriydaya when in Rishikesh. My main question is I appreciate being around young people, but also like to be around folks older than 40. What is your age range of participants and teachers? Also do you prefer that I ask questions here or email you? Thank you! Liz

Has anyone joined Module 1 program and simply used it as a place to attend somewhat regular classes while in town? I'm going to be in Mazunte for 3 weeks and would like to practice and deepen my knowledge, however, I don't think I'm going to be going to lectures and all classes everyday. I received a very vague response from the people at Hridaya about this. Let me emphasize, I honor my practice and take it seriously but getting the certificate isn't important to me.
Thanks for any thoughts :)

I did module 1 last may. If you are looking for a place where to meditate and learn about yoga theory, and practice really meditative Hatha yoga, this is your place. You can go to as many classes as you want, they are not gonna kick you out, you just won’t get the certificate if you don’t attend the mandatory amount of hours. There are several other studios in town that offer classes, for like MXN$15 pesos drop in class. Depending on the time you go, some of the studios might be close (if it’s off season) but I found different options. (A lot of the classes in other studios do overlap with Hridaya, so it will be up to you)

Hi,
I'm planning on going to hridaya for the module 1 intensive but I am a little concerned with the accommodation. I am a female who will be travelling alone. I really do not like dorm style accommodation but a few reviews have said that it is best to stay elsewhere. Are there any recommended hotels/hostels close by as the only Ines I can find online are too pricey for me to afford.
Also what are the single rooms like at el Cora on and Einstein?
Many thanks
T

Mazunte
Hi Tamara,
Thanks for checking in. We would be happy to welcome you to the Module 1 course. If you email us (you can contact us via our website as I can't provide the address here) we can send you a list of recommended options in Mazunte and San Agustinillo.
We do have private rooms at the main center and at Einstein. You can see if these are available for the time you want to come by going to our All Mazunte Events page on our website and choosing "Register Now" on the course dates. You can book a room as a single person or you can choose to have us find you a roommate. There are several photos here on TripAdvisor that show the accommodations, and also on our website at the Accommodations page.
The private rooms at El Corazón are comfortable. They have 2 twin beds with mosquito nets and an outdoor bathing area and composting toilet. Many people report loving being able to bathe out in the fresh air. It is very nice to stay on-site to be close to all the action and roll out of bed for 7:00 am meditation. :)
The rooms at Einstein are about a 5-minute walk from the main center. They are more traditional budget hotel rooms. They also have single beds and mosquito nets. One room has a private bath, the other shares a bath. The nice thing about staying at Einstein is that there is a communal kitchen. It is also set back from the road a bit, so is pretty quiet.
Please email us if you have any additional questions.
Love!

How much is the meal plan per day? Are the mosquitoes terrible year round?
Hridaya_Yoga
Mazunte
Hi Leanne,
Thanks for your questions! During the Module 1 course, we currently offer 2 meals per day (breakfast and dinner) for 20 days for $1700 MXN. During the 10-Day Hridaya Silent Meditation Retreat, we offer 3 meals per day for $1550 MXN.
The mosquitoes are more of a bother during the rainy season (approximately June-September). They are mostly out at sunset and in the early morning. All of our accommodations have bed nets. We advise the use of insect repellent as needed. But, really, I would say it is very rare that they are "terrible." :)
If you have more questions, please email us via our website.
With love,

Hi Amanda,
We find that most commercial insect repellents do the job here. An internet search for natural repellents might be helpful, as we don't have a certain brand that we recommend.
