Although there is a path towards this beautiful vantage point, at times it feels as though it's off beat as it twists and winds, and is paved with broken rocks and gravel. Well worth the trek to meet the sunset as the viewpoint is spectacular. Bring lots of sunscreen or an umbrella if you decide to go early as the... More

Punta Cometa is the southern most point in the state of Oaxaca. You can watch the sunrise on one side of the point and set on the other side. It is considered a local sanctuary, so no hotels have taken over the spot. It is a short hike to get here from Mazunte beach. There are plenty of hotels nearby.

Super nice little view above Mazunte and its wonderful beaches! A nice way to get away from the vendors down on the beach and along the main strip in Mazunte.

It takes a while to reach there, uphiking but the view from there is just spectacular!!! NOT TO MISS when going to Mazunte. You can also go down to playa Cometa, it's so calm and beautiful... the sunset there is amazing!

From the top of Punta Cometa you have a 360 degree view of the beaches and rocks around Mazunte. As it was a bit cloudy the day we visited the sunset was nothing special but the views were still amazing. The small hike to get to the Punta is very nice as well and you could enjoy this spot any... Make sure to arrive at least an hour before the sunset to claim your spot. This place is famous for the view of the sunset.

Short walk from Mazunte through a protected reserve, well worth it to view the amazing sunsets over the ocean.

Great little hike out to a magical point that overlooks the world. Fisherman using their hand lines bringing in large fish, positive energy everywhere and waves crashing up against rocks make it full of vibrant and relaxing vibes.

Walking through a little forest path and through a hillside you will reach the best spot in Mexico to watch a sunset. Don't forget to take a photo besides the gigantic "Organo" a huge cactus tree!!!

Short walk through Mazunte to Punta Cometa to watch the sun set. There are plenty of viewing areas to watch the sun set or spend the day on the beach. Bring your own water and food as there is nothing available on the beach. The waves are fairly large here and so careful swimming or no swimming would be prudent.
