Must do. Go for sunset. Depart at 5 pm for sunset at 6:15ish. Can do in flip flops but switch your footwear for the sake of your feet. Observe the cactus and be kind to the dogs

This is an unforgettable place, there is nothing but the sea, the breeze, and the sun fading away in the horizon. You just have to find the best spot to sit and enjoy the view. The best way to end a day, in our case...More

Our family really enjoyed this hike, the views and sunset! There were lots of people there to watch the sunset but there is plenty of space for everyone. Great way to start the evening!

Going to la Punta Cometa is not an easy hike, but it's all worth it. This is the southernmost point of Oaxaca. It's always a great spot to meditate, relax while you watch the sun go down! There is also a little road you can...More

My daughter is living near by and said this is the sight to see. I couldn't believe how many others were walking to the top of this hill/mountain to see the sun set and the moon rise. The walk wasn't difficult but it wasn't paved...More

There are not a lot of things to do in Mazunte, so Cometa spot should be in the list. The hike is easy (15-25 minutes) and the views are stunning. You can swim in the ocean while sunset.

We did not regret hiking to Punta Cometa because the views compensate the at times steep and rocky hike towards the view points. May definitely wasn't the perfect season because it was extremely hot. Anyway, I would always go in the early morning or for...More

Once in Mazunte, after a long relaxing day on the beach, get up and do a small hike (30 mins more or less) in the green. Take with you all you need for a cool sunset. Drinks, snacks and of course don't forget your camera....More

Bus/Taxi to Punta Cometa? (8 Replies)
Hello! I have been searching key words to try to plan a day trip for a potential trip we are taking to Huatulco. I came across an organized tour to Punta Cometa by Oaxaca Expediciones but as I started searching for Mazunte and Punta Cometa I started seeing that you can take the bus in that direction and make a day trip of it with the market in Ponchutla. Am I correct on this?? If so - what would the best way to go about this be? We are NOT seasoned travellers - his would be our 2nd...More

Ado Bus to Pochutla and the market is easy. From Pochutla to the Mazunte area by taxi is about 150 Pesos. Punta Cometa, a little more. Colectivos (back of a pick-up) come and go and are cheaper, but take a little learning for routes. The market and the beach towns (Zipolite/San Agustinillo/Mazunte) are definitely worth it. Punta Cometa? Not so sure unless you're wanting a sunset. As a rule of thumb a taxi is 250 Peso/hour. Rates include tip, unless the driver does something special you want...More
