Selby abbey is a lovely place to visit , it's upkeep is to a very high standard, very friendly staff to answer your questions, a nice little seating area for a drink. The history of it is very well documented all around the abbey, the stained glass windows are lovely, would recommend a visit here .

The abbey has a fantastic history that is well worth exploring. The Washington window, the reconstruction following the 1906 fire the brilliant new organ and all the history that goes with the old monastery. This is an underrated site and well worth a visit

This a beautiful historic building in Yorkshire. The history has links with the history of the USA, the Knights Templar and King Henry VIII as well as many other historical people. There are a few secrets within the layout of the Abbey (which become apparent as you go round and read the signs).

Although I live in Selby I often go inside, amazingly there is no charge to look round. My parents married here, also myself and daughter and we all feel very privileged to have been able to. It is a beautiful old abbey with wonderful stained glass windows, a superb organ and lots of beautiful carved wood. Quite stunning. If you... More

A most imposing building dating back for centuries. It ias one of the biggest churches in the UK. Walls are festooned with history, see if you can locate the link with the first Americas, need to look up for this one. Go on a Monday and experiance the busy market at the gates especially on a bank holiday Monday when... More

An interesting Abbey to visit. The history was very interesting and we were amazed to see how old some of the stained glass windows were. Had coffee in the shop to warm up

Decided to visit here as it's local and free. What a good choice. Really interesting place and lots of things to see - the squint, the jesse window, the masonry carvings to name but a few. Really worthwhile place to walk round - grabbed a quick cuppa in the small tea shop which was ok. Highly recommended attraction.

We visited the Abby when the Christmas lights were being switched on and I can honestly say I wasn't expecting to see how beautiful it was inside. I would recommend anyone to visit this pretty Abby and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
