I was with a friend for lunch at this golf club. The facilities are nicely maintained and there is ample parking for golfers and external patrons alike. But the facilities seem basic to me compared to the other golf clubs around the Guildford and Woking area.

Visiting relatives who live local so called in for a coffee while out for a walk. Big sign at the gate saying visitors welcome, but not much in the way of signage to the bar/restaurant at the clubhouse itself. It was one of two doorways the other being the golf shop so once past the lobby with the impressive leader board of past champions you enter the bar where service was welcoming and efficient. I guess if you are familiar with similar clubs this would not be a problem, but I had a small amount of worry that I was wondering into the wrong place at first.

I’m often reluctant to review without knowing the history or future plans of a venue, so this account is simply as I found it.
On a near perfect day for golf, with little traffic and fine weather, I knew before I reached the first green that it was not going to be a memorable round.
The grass was ridiculously long, the bunkers were unplayable and the greens also lacked a bit of tlc.
This course has the potential to be up there with some of its more illustrious neighbours who charge three or four times the green fee I paid.
Sadly, it wasn’t comparable with anything other than an under-prepared municipal course.
I do hope the club is able to improve its reputation in the coming years and I will happily return if I read some reviews which give me some encouragement - I might even get to play the back nine next time.

Myself and my friend was really looking forward to our visit at Merrist Wood. How this course is allowed to Open amd Charge full price in December is beyond me. There is no mention of the poor course golfing conditions on there website or when you sign in at the course. Everywhere but Tee off and Greens are unplayable, clothing amd equipment is covered in thick mud, your ball lands an inch below ground surface and is always hard to spot. You are constantly slipping and slidding on the surface on the fairway. Complete rip off paying £28, i will be contacting the club directly. Do not visit in these winter months, find a course that can cope with the weather

Played in usual Saturday morning four ball as social comp at home course (Hindhead) that wasn’t of interest.
£30.00pp was paid upfront.
Practice putting green gave us a hint of what lay ahead but did not prepare us for the squelchy mess that was almost all fairways.
Granted it is December but not one of the wettest ever.
Greens were not great but we expected that, boggy fairways and heavily puddles paths less so.
In addition on several holes the yellow stakes indicating ditches were not able to be seen (9 in particular) from tee shot!

Special mention to the less than COVID friendly‘halfway hut’. Shared tongs, each person sliding glass hot plate window open and no masks from staff.

No wonder there was a £5 off a further round offer on the scorecard.
That won’t be needed!

Whilst accepting the time of year, this was a £20pp at best offering.

Thankfully there was a hose on the way out to hose down filthy trolley, bags, shoes etc.

Came here 3 weeks ago, didn't enjoy it. Came again yesterday and what a difference 3 weeks make. Course was excellent, greens massively improved and you can see the green keepers have been very busy. Staff were very friendly and keen to help. All in all a much improved experience. In this condition i would thoroughly recommend this course

Myself and two other golfers from Wickham Park Golf Club visited today and were highly impressed. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by smiling friendly staff in the bar. The course itself was in magnificent condition and in superb beautiful surroundings. We will most definitely make the trip again. Certainly one of our most favourite Crown Golf Club courses. Highly recommended.

As a member I play regularly at Merrist Wood, but this year the course is looking and playing its best for the last couple of years and it’s only the start of summer. Anyone thinking of booking, do it you will enjoy. Well done Groundskeeper & team for their hard work over winter.

Really needed the ladies so popped in to use the facilities, and decided to stop for lunch, I’m so glad that I did as it was excellent. Really nice and worth a visit.
