This is a wonderful little museum located just a few minutes away from Meuse Argonne Cemetery. The host is an entertaining and passionate Dutchman who has created this museum from artifacts that he has found exploring only 5km around his village. The museum is well laid out with numerous artifacts and reconstructed dug outs an bunkers. The best part of this museum is that you're allowed to touch anything as well and some of the items (like a worn French Adrian helmet with a single bullet hole in it) are really powerful visuals.

I've visited Romagne several times and have been fortunate to have Jean Paul and Brit take me on walking tours in the fields and forests around Romange. Jean Paul is a fantastic guide with many years of experience and deep knowledge of the area and battlefields. My girlfriend and I visited Paris, Milan and Zurich on our last trip and she told me the hiking with Jean Paul was her favorite part of the trip. You can't go wrong spending a morning on one of Jean Paul's walking tours. And make sure to tour their museum. Amazing and a visit not to be missed.

The Romagne 14-18 Museum is a unique combination of both a museum and cafe/bar. We stopped here for lunch on our day-trip out of Paris to tour the WWI battlefields and monuments. After we had ordered Jean-Paul De Vries, the owner, came over to our table and visited with our group about how he starting the business and museum. Although he was born and raised in Belgium (which is not far), his parents frequently visited the area as he was growing up. He said as a young boy he wandered around the hillsides finding and saving items and artifacts connected to WWI battles that had been fought in the area. They were everywhere. As an adult, he has made it his life's work to try and preserve those items left behind from the war. Eventually, his huge private collection was turned into a museum. He still goes out regularly searching for more artifacts. Jean-Paul had some stories about the area and WWI history that you will not find in a book. The cafe/museum is within walking distance of the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, which is a must-see, so stop by and visit both if you are in the area.

Whilst in the area visiting WW1 sites we were directed to this museum. What a place it is . The owner is very knowledgable and incredibly proud of the museum (as he should be). Its a museum where you call handle artifacts which brings things to life. The cafe which is attached is also great quality food / drinks at a fair price. A must visit. As stated in another review its free to enter but a donation is appreciated--well worth a few euros.

Very interesting collection of WW1 finds that the owner has made in the surrounding area. He is very enthusiastic and welcoming host. He is also very proud that Michael Palin and a film crew stopped there for lunch whilst filming in the area and included his museum in the Timewatch programme. Although we only had a coffee some other people were having sandwiches and very good they looked too. There is no charge to see the museum but a donation is much appreciated.

Great salad for lunch and interesting WW1 museum. Host has collected thousands of WW1 finds from surrounding hills and displays them in a museum adjoining the restaurant.

This is a great opportunity to get close to the relics and many personal items left over from ww1.
Collected over many years by Jean-Paul de Vries from the local fields of France.
Jean - Paul is a friendly guy, always happy to chat.
The museum has a cafe - so a good opportunity for a sandwich and a drink.
My 15 year old son thoroughly enjoyed it and that's saying something!

Very interesting small museum. The volunteer at work was very well informed. Originally Dutch speaker, nice for Dutch people.
Almost unbelievable that even today these remnants of WW1 are found in the fields.
The cafeteria of the museum is nice for a drink or more.

The real value in seeing this museum is talking to the owner collector Jean Paul De Vries. He knows everything about the area. It is within walking distance of the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery. His barn is chock full of artifacts he has found from the war. We were visiting on Memorial Day. My wife's grandfather was shot (but survived fortunately) in the Meuse-Argonne offensive Sept 26, 1918.
Jean Paul was busy the day we visited, so we enlisted his aide Luke to show us where the 37th American Infantry division fought near Montfaucon. They have a small van for this purpose.
You can get a ham and cheese sandwich and drink at the cafe

I visited this museum as part of a business trip. We initially stopped for lunch at the cafe (which is part of the museum), which was great - plus, you get a lot for your money.
There were no other visitors, so we had the place to ourselves. We wandered around the museum after lunch, and were amazed at the objects on display. The museum is very different to most museums and visitor centres you see, and it is for this reason I am giving it such a high recommendation.
This isn't conventional in any way. You're not confronted with dozens on display boards, object labels, child-friendly, accessible-to-all type nonsense. The objects speak for themselves, which so many museums sadly fail to do now (IWM anyone?).
Please do see this hidden gem - it is truly wonderful, there are some very rare objects on display, and the owners are passionate. It really is how a museum should be.
