We happened to pass this hydroelectric power station on our extended walk and decided to pop in - you could just walk in, amazing! from the gallery we could admire the AEG turbines and the explanatory comments were really useful. Worth seeing!

This is one of the oldest power stations in Bavaria and still working today. Entry to the information centre is FREE and worth a visit if you are interest in the history of the Walchensee

The Walchensee power plant is a hydroelectric power station south of Kochel, which is open to the public. The power station was built from 1918 until 1924 & uses the height difference between the Walchensee and the Kochelsee to generate electricity. The power station has a little information center in which tons of information is provided about water power generation, different types of turbines, the overall set-up of water power generation etc. I cannot remember whether the information was German only or not.
