About
"HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT WINERY" | TOKAJ GUIDE " The most friendly wine tasting place in Tokaj" | Lonely Planet More than 35 years our family has been growing grapes and making wine in Tokaj Wine Region. Our small vineyard in the border of Tokaj town encompass 3 hectars and we produce cca. 15-20.000 bottles of fine tokaj wine annually. They appear on market with serial numbered labels. According to the chronicles, our building itself was built in the 16th century as a hunting lodge by János Szapolyai, the king of Hungary and the voivode of Transylvania. Put Himesudvar winnery to the top of your planned visits in Tokaj. Himesudvar is an old name of Tokaj. The tour inside is provided by a young girl working there for free. It was around 10 minutes , but quite informative. The main rule here that they do not sell their wines outside of this winnery. Therefore plenty of tourists buy more than 2 bottles. They produce mainly sweet dry or semi sweet, sweet wines. I have tried 1) Zeta Tokaj semi sweet (2017) and 2) Furmint Tokaj dry (2019). Liked more the 1st one and got a bottle as a present🍷they have an outside beautiful garden where you can chill while tasting your wines.
A drop- dead place I recommend to everyone who plan visit to Tokaj📍

My husband and I attended the wine tasting at Himesudvar. Directly from the source, Peter, the winemaker and owner, carefully explained to us the characteristics of the grape varieties and the sweet winemaking process during the tasting. He is approachable and speaks good English. We even got a chance to visit the cellar. It was well organised and interesting. This trip has deepened my understanding of the history, people, and effort behind different types of sweet wine. I personally love their sweet wine selection, which is well balanced with a perfect amount of sweetness and acidity. Their wine is only available at the cellar door, run fast!

Thank you for taking the time to write a response! We're glad that you enjoyed your time here. Our efforts to cater to non-hungarian speakers increase as we grow as a business, and we try our best to provide an experience which is not only authentic to the region and its history but also reflects the selection of wines and the process of making them so unique. We hope you can visit us again soon! Hímesudvar staff

We have visited in several wine cellars all over the world, but Himesudvar was definitely the best! Because of winter it is open just on Saturdays and Sundays. But we didn't know that and we went there on Wednesday. It was closed. But no problem. We went to a Tokaiji's great and helpful tourist information and they called to a Himesudvar's landlord who was shopping and asked if we could visit in his wine cellar. It was ok for him.

The landlord presented a wine cellar for us and organized an interesting wine tasting just for me and my husband. Himesudvar's and Tokaji's wines were very high quality, the landlord and his sister were friendly and helpful and atmosphere was great. We learned so much about Tokaji, Himesudvar business and Hungarian wines during a couple of hours. It was a very interesting visit, indeed.

What a fun time. The family was very welcoming and kind. Tour and tasting were interesting and educational. We became great fans of their Aszu wine and brought a few bottles home. They also sell honey, syrup, and jam from other local farms. We brought home a bottle of each. We would definitely like a return visit to restock.

We had a great gastronomic experience here. This place is special because it is only a 3 hectare Tokaj's winery that means their wines were really special with custom taste.

We were served by the owner who was really kind and she told aboult the winery a lot.

We tasted five and one kinds of Tokaj wines with some cheese. Both cheese and wine was delicious together.

There is a shop with the vineyard's wines. You can buy what you tasted.

We also visited the wine cellar which was nice and interesting.

We visited Himesudvar in July 2016 and were so glad we did. husband and i were staying at nearby Paulay Borhaz es Vendeghaz, a short walk from this special place. We were lucky enough to get a tour from the owner's very knowledgeable son, which was one of the highlights of our trip. This is an amazing family winery and everyone family member's very hard work pays off in every aspect of the quality of the wine and facilities. Additionally, we purchased 6 bottles of their wine and was able to ship it from our hotel in Budapest via fed ex. The wines arrived in perfect condition and we look forward to enjoying each bottle. I'm especially looking forward to opening the Aszu and Eszencia. Thanks again

We did a wine tasting at this premises. The producer is small, but the rage of wine we tasted was wide. And several of the wines was good. We got the tour in English, and had a short visit in the cellar.

We Have visited Himesudvar two years in a row and it has become our favourite wine cellar with the outstanding wines on offer.
The yard with the outside tables is not only suitable for adults (the main wine tasters) but also plenty to do for the little ones. Always enjoy spending our family time there :)
Can't wait to come to Himesudvar wine cellar next time we are visiting... And drink the gorgeous wine!!!
