Place with history
Aug 2020 • Couples
We have chosen this place because we have heard they have Polish speaking guide. Unfortunately because of Covid-19 not this year. It was English speaking from Boston- kind and well describing everything. Wines very good!

Worth to be seen - Impressing Caves
Sep 2019
We found the wine cellar very impressing and had a short but a very individual sightseeing just for the two of us.
The staff was very friendly and polite and the knowledge about the history of Tokaij very good. The Lady who showed us around spoke fluently englisch so we had a really good time.

History comes to life...

Terrific place, with a very Dracula type of theme going on in their wine tasting area of the cellar. The wine is very good, and the staff very friendly. Kathryn was very helpful and informative with her explanation of the cellar, the history and the ownership. The wines are reasonably priced, and they have a wide variety of different types - including their unique organic wine. I would highly recommend coming here, if for no other rason than to hear the fascinating story of the cellar's beginnings and to have some wine in a very unique setting.

must visit place

If you like wine you should visit it and try some excellent wine. It very impressive when you can see a mold and through this mold is growing another mold.

Outdoor Terrace and Wine Tasting
Aug 2017
The wine cellars here look fascinating, but I spent my time upstairs under the open sky on a terrace overlooking Tokaj's main square, Kossuth tér. I recommend the cheese plate with three 0.1-liter glasses of different Hétszölö wines: a dry Furmint; a demi-sec Sárgamuskotály; and a late-harvest Furmint, slightly sweet and excellent. I added a fourth taster of late-harvest Hárslevelü with the sweetness and quality of a good French Sauterne. You may prefer a tour of the cellar or a session at the tasting bar inside, but I had a lovely time at my outdoor table.

Very bad
Sep 2017 • Solo
So i arrived around 10am to see if it was open. It was closed and said it is open from 13h till 18h. I planned my whole day around this and I arrive at 16h30 to be on time. The unfriendly lady at the entrance told me i cannot come in because there is a big group planned at 17h. I did notice a big bus outside. Why on earth cant you put on the door closed at 16h30 because of big group? I could still visit for 30m if i wanted, she refused. Sorry dont tell me that big bus just showed up by accident and you didnt know they would come. Im just her for a day and i am very dissapointed. Organise yourself! If you are open till 18h you are! If not put a sign on the door so people can come earlier! Thanks for ruining my day.
Guys go to local cheaper places instead of a place that caters only TX groups to get more sales. AVOID

A little history of wine in Tokaj
Jul 2017
We spent very nice time in cold caves full of wines, learning history in our native language (if you're Polish ask about polish staff). The wines at the wine tasting where great so we left with one bottle bought after the tour.

Wonderful & Welcoming
Aug 2016 • Couples
We got off the train in Tokaj to take an adventure really not knowing where we wanted to go to, but knew we could head to the cellars.

It is quite a walk, from the train station to the downtown area, but well worth it.

When we arrived the area was quiet, in late August, but they were eager to welcome you. The lady who showed us around, and did the tasting was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and hospitable.

I think at first she was curious why two young Americans were here, and who the hell we were, as she said we don't see many American tourists come to us, and even fewer that are young (they get some of the river cruise aged folks apparently). I told her I was a sommelier, and al of the sudden she giggled a little and said, 'this makes sense.'

She was extremely welcoming to us, even if we seemed at first to be very different from the usual visitor. We had an amazing time, and when I informed her of my profession, they were eager to show me other, rare items on top of the package we purchased. Before leaving we bought some older vintages of Tokaj to bring back, as well as some of the table wines too.

This place is awesome, and was a favorite of ours because of how wonderful a time they showed us.

A tour

This cellar was pricey compared to other cellars near by. Of course this is the oldest and largest cellar built by a king and has the most history hens the reason for being pricey.
