A bit of a drive from Palmerston North (approx 45 min) we called in to see the eel feeding and the white Kiwi. Both were great with rangers giving some great informative and engaging talks. Lovely bush walks (although we didn't want to take the kids on the long one) cafe had nice food (coffee was so/so)

All in all a nice place. Made better all the better by the friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Disappointing

We were really looking forward to seeing this place but felt it was a total rip off. Cost $20 each but saw very little. We had quite a wait for a glimpse of a Kiwi being fed but were hassled along in a line as there were about 100 people. The only other birds we saw were one small green one and a pigeon. Aviaries marked as being either empty or having only one occupant which we didn't see. Lots of eels.

What a fantastic place this is. A lovely place to spend a few hours either hiking round the trails or looking at the beautiful selection of wildlife especially birds that they have in captivity. Take in all the talks they do on the wildlife as it's very informative and watch out for the only Kokako in captivity she is gorgeous

Stopped in on our way back from Wellington.
Didn't do the steep walk, just the gentle stroll to the eels and kiwi house. Very interesting talk and feeding at the eels, and the white kiwi was stunning....
Beautiful bush walk, nice cafe and little gift shop.
Well worth stopping in.

Spend a day catching up with nature

We stopped on our way down to Wellington and decided to stretch our legs. even though the day was not the warmest it was a pleasant walk enjoying the birds and native bush. They doing lots to bring back a range of endangered bird life species, also breeding our Tuatara. We found the range of feeding time activities and talks by the staff involved full of information. Certainly spreading an important message for everyone to hear.

Very rural location and walk
If you like like walking in a very rural location a good place to start.
