The Mural Town
May 2021
An interesting wee rural town respecting its history by story telling through wonderful murals of various buildings etc in the town. Well worth doing a walking tour.

A town has enhanced its appeal

I was not really a person who liked murals on walls, but I have certainly changed my mind since shopping and/or driving through Katikati. The wall murals are so beautifully painted and salute historical people and happenings in the area. They match any murals we've seen in other parts of the world. We never tire of seeing these. Just amazing.

If you are passing through it is definitely stopping to look at these interesting murals. Suggest you get a map from the information centre. Easy to see and photograph.

Well preserved murals
Feb 2020 • Couples
About 30 murals and all in excellent condition considering a lot were painted in the 90's. Park the car and wonder around enjoying them. Some of the murals had small stories about them while others are only their to look at and make up your own story.

All sorts

Forgot how funny and interesting these murals are scattered all over Katikati. They are varied but my favourites are the Kiwi bloke and his dog plus the liquorice all sorts piano - they just appeal to my sense of humour. I hope there will be more in the future.

A chance stop and we went into the visitor centre where the lovely helpful people told us all about the town and how the murals developed.

Really interesting and colourful town - well worth a stop.

Interesting angle on the history of the town
Oct 2019
Known as the mural town, most of these murals were created as part of an open art competiton in the 1990s. Some are fading a little, but most are still fresh and you can follow a trail round the town. There's also a sculpture trail. The murals depict the history of the town. It's only a small town, so the walk doesn't take long and you can park on the road or in the car park.
