Was on my partners to see list so being in the area we drove along to it. The monument not the easiest to find is at the end of a dead end side road on the right if you are coming up from the shop & just before the bridge. If i was you i would find somewhere else to park & not drive down to it because you will either end up parking in someones drive or blocking the road. It's only a few mins walk down the lane.
Definitely worth a visit, especially if you are found of Scottish history and the troubled past of the area.

We stayed at Glencoe House which was very close to the monument. Had to visit given we are MacDonald’s and my husband resided in the Highlands in his early childhood. Fitting memorial and well done to those who continue to maintain it.

Smaller than I expected, however this is a very humble monument to the massacre. It is very well maintained and is only a short walk from the village.

As I mentioned in a different review, I specifically had my husband drive to this area so I could see the spot where so many of Clan MacDonald were cruelly massacred by members of Clan Campbell. I had done much reading on the subject and while much of Scotland is steeped in murder and tragedy, this particular event truly touched me. I simply had to see it. I wasn't disappointed. As we stood there looking at all the sites around us, it was as though I could hear the screams of those being attacked by people they had opened their doors to in typical Scottish welcome. I gave my husband a quick overview of what happened, but even without that he appreciated the beauty of the area we were in. Highly recommended. And if you do decide to visit, I also recommend doing some reading in advance on the 'Glencoe Massacre.' Certainly waaaaay in the past - 1692 - but a big part of what helped to shape Scotland.

Glencoe is a small town near the River Coe, and has magnificent picturesque views of the hillsides and mountains of this Highlands area. The small monument pays tribute to the 38 clansmen of Clan MacDonald, who were killed in the Massacre of Glen Coe on February 13th in 1692, following the Jacobite uprising of 1689-1692. The British troops traveling through the area were offered food and lodging for the night by the host MacDonald clansmen, a compassionate Scottish tradition. During the night the troops killed all of the clansmen - a massacre never forgotten by the Scots.

There is something about the banality of the place - this is a symobl of why Scotland is not-England. The proportions of life, simple life, and crude of rule the waves.

The memorial is a little difficult to get to; but nobody can change where the massacre took place can they? It is small yet insightful. The view is beautiful. Definitely worth the walk for history buffs.

Difficult to find as it is not well sign posted however this does mean that those who do visit are there because they specifically wish to see the monument. It is at the end of the village before the bridge (if you get lost ask for directions at the folk museum on the main street - we did and they were very helpful). There is very limited car parking, the monument is on a high mound with rails around it. This makes if difficult to access if disabled or difficulty walking, however there are benches to rest and enjoy the area. It's peaceful, respectful and gives reverence to the MacDonald Clan. A MUST for History buffs.

Unfortunate that is very much off the beaten track. You really have to search it out. Obviously of great significance in light if the event that is in memory of but I think unless you're a descendant or a real history buff it's not particularly remarkable.
