- Gordon RBathgate, United Kingdom816 contributionsExcellent Walk and use of opencast mine.We really enjoyed this walk and the views it provided of the surrounding countryside. I thought it was a good use of what would otherwise have been an eyesore opencast mine. Intead we have a fantastic artwork the public can enjoy and benefit from. I think the volunteers who work here really do an excellent job keeping this attraction maintained and open. Very highly recommended as a very unusual attraction and a fantastic walk suitable for all ages and mobility categories.Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 12, 2023
- Jennie C290 contributionsThe best cheese scones for your after walk treat!Lovely space to walk the dogs and enjoy the views, with quite the best cheese scones ever on offer in the cafe! I had a plain cheese (delicious) and my husband had the cheese, bacon and black pudding variant. Really great baking, lovely service too.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 26, 2023

It’s very clever how it’s all been put together but such a shame that there are no higher viewing points where you can see the lady. I think the planners missed a truck there. It’s very hard to get a sense of where are when you walk around it. Once at the top the view is nothing special, it’s quite industrial and there are no nice countryside views. Ok if you’ve nothing better to do and it is free but I’d not go back.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 1, 2023

Fascinating place to visit, something for everyone to enjoy for a small donation. It's great that this once industrial site has been turned into a cleverly landscaped artwork where wild flowers and grasses are growing and butterflies and bees can flourish too. There are places to picnic beside the lakes and children can run free and great for dog walks too. I was surprised to see the open colliery works too on the other side, which made you appreciate this wonderful place even more. Children would love to watch the giant excavators hard at work and also enjoy the woodland walks.

I visited for the first time in January 2021 during lockdown. It was a rare sunny and bright day, yet freezing and extremely muddy! You definitely need to wear a pair of wellies here! Parking is free and there is plenty of space to walk, with the exception of the summit, which is quite narrow and can only accommodate one person at a time at the moment and the area at the top can only accommodate a few people at a time. A few of the stairwells were cordoned off due to the recent adverse weather conditions I believe. There is also an interesting view of Cramlington Airfield from WW1 which I did not realise was even there, and of the nearby working opencast mine. There is also a nice woodland walk near the entrance. A really nice place to enjoy some fresh air, especially during these awful times.

Carpark & cafe on site. Staff in cafe were lovely but service was very slow. Took about 20 mins to make 2 simple sandwiches. The walk is easy and took about 45 mins to complete. At the start of the walk there is a metal outline of the sculpture with numbers on it. Take a photoshoot of this if you can before your walk as you tend to forget which part of the body you are standing on. From the head of the feature, you have views of the open cast coal mine. The lady has been sculpted very cleverly in the landmark. The area attracts a lot of wildlife - butterflies, bees, nymph's which was lovely to see.

Quirky! Innovative! And amongst nature; this was a perfect few hours out. The car park had a lot of space, and the toilets, which were near the cafe were clean and tidy. Prices in the cafe were reasonable and the whole place is dog friendly!
We ventured up to the head of the landscape first, and with a toddler then it was important that I had a pushchair with me in case his legs got tired - the route was very easy to get around with a pushchair. My children loved climbing up the many body parts, and the views from the head are amazing! With panoramic views all around! The area was well kept, and there was even a wooden trail which my toddler loved, where wood carvings had been created, like chairs, cars and seating. Great walk out. We spent about an hour and half here but it would have been longer if it hadn’t have been raining!

This is a sterile art piece which is just all the slag from the opencast coal mine which scarred the landscape for well over 10yrs and will have contributed to climate change both in excavating the coal and then the burning of that coal. There isn't anything nice about it. Nothing for wildlife and I assume Lord Ridley, who owned the land and who is a climate change denier, thought it would be a good idea to put a female body form stretching a quarter of a mile across the land. To many locals it is known as Slag Alice.
Dogs must be kept on a lead.
Every now and then the nose or head slips so they have to redo it.
Northumberland Wildlife took over the site once the statue was completed.
The only positive is its several small hills with a good view over south east Northumberland and parts of Tyneside.

Lovely walk around this interesting landscape sculpture. The surface coal mine next door points to the ‘before and ‘after’ achievement. The car park is free and offers free electric vehicle charging points which is an added bonus. Very popular family attraction, well worth a visit.

Visited here with my husband and 4 year old. It’s free to park and not only do you get to walk around the naked lady there is an educational woodlands trek. Each part of the naked lady is numbered and you can walk up little or big mounds to each point on the map, it took us 40 minutes approximately to walk around the naked lady, which gave us a good work out. After we did a little flat woodland trek that had wood teepees, carvings and activities to do, my little loved this part, the wooded area took approximately 30 minutes to complete. Overall it was a lovely hour and a half spent and I would go again

We went there for a walk and also for our child to attend the nature music lessons. The lessons were amazing! The updates for these can be found on the website. The walk was nice... since we had a pushchajr, we did not sttempt climbi g to the top...just went around the whole area on the circumference.
The cafe had amazing hot chocolate drinks! Toilets were clean.. the small area of woods before the sculpted structure was our favourite!!!

Are dogs allowed off their lead?

Sauchie, UK34 contributions
TBH I don't know - I've never seen any off their leads but there are no wardens or anything there so I guess it would be up to individuals - obviously school holidays tend to b quite busy so u may want to visit when it's a bit quieter
Is there a charging point for electric vehicles please?
