About
Cantacuzino Castle was the summer residence of Prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, nicknamed "The Nabob" due to his impressive wealth. The building, built in 1911, bears a great architectural, historical, documentary and artistic value and spreads over a vast area of about 6 hectares. The architecture of the castle is made in neo-Romanian style, with neo-Brancovian elements. The castle park is similar to European royal parks, being laid out with paved alleys, artesian fountains, a grotto, trees, flower gardens and sculptures. It also offers the most beautiful panoramic view in the entire area! Due to its special charm, the castle has hosted, over time, several international productions (films, series, TV commercials, videos etc.). The most recent production filmed here is the mini-series "Wednesday", the exterior of the castle representing Nevermore Academy.

Cantacuzino Castle is truly a hidden gem that offers an immersive glimpse into Romania’s rich history, but what made our visit unforgettable was our exceptional tour guide. Although we arrived just before closing, he welcomed us warmly and took the time to make our last-minute tour feel truly special. He navigated the castle’s grand halls with enthusiasm, painting vivid pictures of the Count Cantacuzino family’s life and the evolution of this architectural marvel. Most memorable was how he dashed ahead into the ballroom, deftly securing the massive doors so that we could enjoy that breathtaking reveal as if it were a scene straight out of a storybook. From the ornate woodwork and stained glass to the majestic mountain views from the terraces, the castle itself is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and style. But having a guide who was passionate, knowledgeable, and eager to share stories not often highlighted in standard tours elevated the experience beyond expectation. Even after a long day, he gave us his undivided attention, answered every question, and genuinely cared that we understood and appreciated the details. If you’re looking for a historic landmark that pairs old-world grandeur with an intimate, personalized learning experience, Cantacuzino Castle fits the bill. Go for the beauty, but hope you’re lucky enough to have a guide who transforms your visit into a cherished memory.

The outside of this castle is beautiful.... A beautiful luxurious country house! The interior leaves to be desired if you have other European castles in mind with exquisite furniture. Its beauty is in its garden and sculptures. For those who like a photo to post on social networks, will have fun .... Enjoy without Moderation in view of the mountains of this region of Transylvania :) The souvenir store has nothing. Need to review this and enjoy the ‘wave’ of Wandinha Addams... :(

Nice attraction in the area. Definitely worth a visit. The large gardens, the well maintained castle are a trip to the glorious past. You can also have a guided tour of the castle or have lunch at the Canta Cusine restaurant. Paid parking is availble.

Beautiful site with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains on a clear day. We visited the castle and its surroundings. Took a tour of the interior of the castle where the story of the place and the Cantacuzino family is explained in detail. The guide was superb, although the tour was in the Romanian language he made every effort to also attend to nonromanian speakers. We enjoyed the tour, the castle, and its surroundings.

We spent a day at the Cantacuzino Castle and we loved it! The castle is newly renovated and it looks absolutelly amazing. The view from the terrace is breathtaking and the restaurant is fabulous! We did the guided tour to find more about the history and the tour guide was great, he made the story really fun and enjoyable. The castle also served as a filming location for the TV series Wednesday, therefore in its backyard you'll see a bunch of photos with scenes that were shot there! I highly recommend you to visit the estate and just have a cup of coffee on their terrace and enjoy the view!

We had driven from Bucharest to Brasov and noticed this on the way up. My wife wanted to check it out on the way back. Easy enough…follow the parking signs and listen to the unsmiling man tell you to “buy your ticket.” If you want to see the inside, tour guide required, and only in Romanian (Brilliant!). Different price if you want to walk around outside…which is what we did. It was a short trip, and heavily leaned towards the movie. Not worth the time unless one of your kids is really into the movie. Not recommended.

A very rude ticket attendant, he tells us that to enter the castle a guided tour is necessary, present only in Romanian. We necessarily fall back on the visit to the park alone, a fairly expensive ticket even for the outside. Great location for fun photos and beautiful scenery. We did not appreciate the rudeness at the ticket office, certain however of the tourist influx. In summary, good potential but badly exploited

Absolutely lovely !!! the castle was beautiful and the grounds were gorgeous !! The cafe was lovely with great food ( cheese cake was absolutely gorgeous) and great views. A nice little shop so worth and walk round. So interesting seeing places that they used for filming the Wednesday nevermore academy, There are slight slopes but easy walking round. There are disabled parking spaces and not far from the house.

Services non existent. You have to pay at the entrance to go to the restaurant with the car? We didn’t want to visit the castle, just to eat, so: 10 ron parking + 20 ron / person just to stay at the restaurant? We entered the restaurant where a a lady told us not at all nice that nibody is going to serve us in the restaurant inside. If we want to eat, outside, on the terrace. We ordered an onion soup and a mushroom soup, which were without taste (no salt, no pepper, nothing), for a price of a soup in a Paris brasserie. Terrible choice. Then, we were curious about the lava cake, actually this is why we came for: the lava cake with pistaccio and the normal one with white chocolate. I think the chef doesn’t have any idea how a lava cake should be done. Terrible, the pistaccio one was overcooked, looked like a green leftover brownie, with a taste like a 3 days brownie jut put into the microwave. The chocolate one the same, tasteless, horrible. At a price of a cake in Paris. Plus, for these absolut horrors we waited 1,5 hours. People, avoid eating there. It’s not even a tourist trap, it’s the worst place we ate in years!!! And far more expensive than in any other country! To be avoided at any cost!

Beautiful views with the mountains spreading out in front of this castle. Quite breath-taking. It’s such a shame the communists stripped bare this beautiful place of all its interior decorations and furnishings and criminally painted over all the artwork on the walls. The rooms are now mostly bare and the polar opposite of what we experienced when we visited Peles Castle that had rooms beautifully and ornately furnished.
I’ve not seen the Netflix series “Wednesday” but there are numerous Standees about the grounds referencing the TV series, as well as a huge banner at the castle entrance, it’s a good selling point to get visitors, a shame they couldn’t have left some of the furniture from the TV series sets in the rooms to enhance the fans/visitors experience a bit and to fill the huge empty spaces.
In a couple of the rooms upstairs there was a sculpture display which was very interesting.
Is it worth a visit? If you are a fan of the TV series I guess the answer is a yes but I’ve not seen the TV show and was unfortunately left a little underwhelmed. Don’t get me wrong its beautiful and the grounds are fantastic and there’s a good view from the hunters keep which you’re allowed to walk up too.
But I cant help feeling there’s some real missed opportunities.
I’m glad we visited but if it was a toss-up between Cantacuzino Castle and Peles castle I’d recommend Peles castle every single time.

Very nice tour of the castle. Our guide, Anamaria, was very professional, she answered all our questions with complete information. He has vast and interesting knowledge.
Disclaimer: Only outside you can see the areas where the Wednesday series was filmed

After reading about his client "Nababul" and visiting the real nearby castles, Castello Catacuzino (which would be more correct to call Villa and not castle) was a disappointment. Apart from the fact that it pays for everything and exaggeratedly (from the parking lot, the entrance with compulsory guided tour, the visit of secret rooms that are actually the souvenir shop of the location, etc..), the castle is not much, in fact all consisting of a large ballroom frescoed and preserved thanks to some villain who had covered the paintings with wallpaper before giving a nice coat of white. You can therefore also avoid passing through and go directly to the spectacular castle of Peles.

Definitely worth to visit the castle, the garden, the little church, the restaurant and the souvenir place. The view is amazing. The guide was nice. Last year when we visited the castle we visited also the temporary exhibition with Leonardo da Vinci's creations. The exhibitions change every few months.

The beautiful village of Busteni hosts a nicely located castle on the way up one of the roads on the mountains that's surrounding the city. It's a short walk of about 10 minutes from the center of the village. The entrance fee for adults is 30 LEI without seeing the art gallery, and 40 LEI all included. The tour (in Romanian) starts every hour (13.05, 14.05 etc). The castle itself is relatively small but has a rich history and there are some very nice and well preserved rooms to see, most notably the ballroom with its beautifully painted walls. The art gallery includes works by e.g. Picasso. All in all worth the visit, and dont forget to stroll around in the garden, especially in sunny weather it gives very good vibes and the sights from there are also gorgeous.

Sign seen on the side of the road with a nice lure of the series from the adams family. (I as a big fan most excited)
The price was around 72 euros for 4 people and parking. To see 30 minutes 3 rooms. where 1 guide had 20 minutes about romans and things that didn't belong there (because it was built after 1900).
And nothing about the series nothing to see. A family that has da thing builds as ode. Thats it. No big deal.
Money draw.
T food was good though 🤤

I only gave one star because of how I was treated by the woman who prepares the hot beverages at their so called restaurant : she refused to bring the coffee and the seat cushions to my table since it was a light rain that stopped 2 minutes after I ordered. Such a shame that this beautiful place with an amazing history is ruined by lazy, rude employees! This could have been such a beautiful experience, but I was extremely disappointed.
The castle and the surroundings should not be missed and they deserve at least 4 stars, hence to the amazing view towards Bucegi mountains

Of course, the teenage daughter had an interest in the castle. (Impressed by the series Wednesday) The guide himself explained that the series only uses the external image of the castle and the surrounding forest areas. In this case, I recommend not making an internal visit, but only inspecting the outside.

Extremely interesting for people with a passion for art and history. The Castle itself is beautiful, and the grounds are stunning. There is some good artwork, both scattered around the grounds, and inside the Castle. There is also a nice cafe with great views of the mountains.

However, the rooms are mostly unfurnished, so that you can't really visualise what they would have looked like. Also, tours are in Romanian only, which limits accessibility.
