The region is beautiful to visit and the Geopark Center in Arouca, very modern and informative, with enthusiastic and helpful staff. Good place to get started, since they explain the "birth-giving" stones and hand out maps of the area and of the Paiva Walkways. Definitely check it out!

Great day out for nature lovers. 8km walk - hike, on man made trails following the river. Lots of parts are under shade, but a hat is recommended on hotter summer days.

This trip was the highlight of our visit. We drove from arouca village, there are signs to all trails. The road is narrow sometimes, and you should choose parking well. At first we walked up endless wooden stairs to photograph the amazing canyon and lively acricultural fields on hills, but then we decided to walk a wooden trail along the river(a bit above). As it was hot in july,so we decided to climb down about 100 m to the river to take a bath. The water was surprisingly pleasant, cool but not ice cold with little waterfalls and lots of beautiful shimmering pebbles, some of them with lots of quartz. This geopark is fantastic, unfortunatly we have seen only a tiny region!Next time I will plan more than a day for visiting it!

A Landscape with trail paths, small rivers, small animals, good place for photography, small museums and attractions... do it!

Everything is well organized, turist wise.
I would especially recommend a visit to frecha da mizarela, casa das pedras parideiras, and to the little 'aldeias' in Serra da Freita, with fantastic walks around it.

We rented a car on airport of Porto to drive to Passadiços do Paiva, located in Arouca Geopark, between the cities of Arouca and the villages of Alvarenga e Espiunca. All this area is very beautiful, you drive in back roads along the hills with many beautiful countryside landscapes. We intend to go back to explore another atractions of the this region in North of Portugal.

If you want to perform traking in a very nice and beautiful place it is worth going to Paçadisso do Paiva. The tracks are very good in perfect conditions to a safe walking. Be prepared in the summer with lots of wather and snacks!

Starting in Arouca at the Information Centre you will find a range of high quality background to the Geopark. The centre itself is superb. Some of the signage for driving is a little wayward but it's well worth the effort to reach the plateau and visit their sites.

The park has many small "sights" to stop for, so you can plan a short visit or several full day tours, depending how much time you have. The staff in visitor centre downtown Arouca is extremely helpful. I participated guided tours but met in hotel people who had a rental car. There are walking trails with stunning views and they are building more walks and platforms.
