We rented a car on airport of Porto to drive to Passadiços do Paiva, located in Arouca Geopark, between the cities of Arouca and the villages of Alvarenga e Espiunca. All this area is very beautiful, you drive in back roads along the hills with many beautiful countryside landscapes. We intend to go back to explore another atractions of the this region in North of Portugal.

We went for the bridge but would love to come back to try other trails as well. Beautiful area. Our tour was arranged by our travelgroup so I have no idea who the local guides were with, but the bridge itself is fun. Since it is the largest suspension bridge I expected a lot more sway than it had. Our group of 10 were the only ones on it at one point but even with more people it had very little motion. (But our trip leader said she was on it one time as a storm was approaching and it was swaying then). While the entire thing is metal mesh that you can see through, it is well built with high sides so no fear of falling. But this is not for someone with a fear of heights, since at times you are about 600 feet above ground that you can see below your feet. Parking is quite a ways away so there is a beautiful hike to and from the bridge as well--you need a guide/tour service to get there. We saw waterfalls and other trails including an interesting wooden walkway that I would love to go back and do another time.
