- Salvatore B1 contributionThe guided tour, carried out by the young Irene with enthusiasm and competence, took us back into the history of the salt pans. Everything else is completed by the sunset which makes everything more fascinating and unique. Highly recommended.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 23, 2024
- James HConnecticut66 contributionsWe just spent an hour exploring both the salt ponds and the Museum of Salt. It was a surprisingly interesting and rich experience, equal to any other tour we have had in Italy. The history goes back 2700 years to the Phoenicians. The tour guide that we had, whose name is Zeudi, was extremely well informed and interesting. No question we asked went unanswered!!Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 17, 2024
- Rosa D10 contributionsSunset at Trapani salt pans: moving for its beauty! And then discover the museum; the museum where, in a structure that exudes history, work, effort but also love and pride in being "salari", take a curious journey into a unique world. Visit it because only here do you perceive the meaning of everything there is, which was behind even a simple "fistful of salt"Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 19, 2024

Very characteristic place. I had some doubts about visiting a salt pan, I didn't think it would be so fascinating at sunset. All very beautiful. the salt museum with the explanation of some history and some anecdotes from the guide was exceptional. An experience not to be missed if you are in the area.

We arrived by bike at the salt pan and went in to visit the museum. The guide led us with descriptive precision, lightened with shrewd irony, managing to maintain the attention of the entire group, which was also made up of children. He, who revealed that he was the owner's nephew, made the experience very interesting by helping us to retrace all the phases of the procedure for obtaining the salt and its processing. Really good. The destination is highly recommended.

Small but excellent museum, housed in a picturesque old salt mill. The guide, Alicia, speaks perfect English and explains the process of removing and drying the salt very clearly.
You can climb up onto the roof to see the sails close-up, and for stunning views of the surrounding salt pans with sparkly white cone-shaped piles of salt. The museum is located inside a WWF nature reserve, and you can pay a small fee to walk around the area. Salt is for sale, with flavourings like lemon and thyme. You can also see lots of bird life in the basins, including flamingoes.

We booked an English version tour and were fortunate to have the grandson of the founder introduce us to the World of salt production. With charm, humour and memorable anecdotes he kept our full attention during the 30 mins. tour. In addition to the very reasonable entry fee to the museum you also have the possibility to visit the salt basins for an even smaller fee and you can buy salt souvenirs on location as well. Do not miss the visit.

Not sure why trip advisor saying closed, open on 30th Oct 2021. Beautiful location and stunning views back across the bay to Trapani and up to Erice on the hill tops. A family run affair, very good value at 3 Euro a head, told all about the salt harvesting process, in the old days and up to today. Wonderful working models of the windmills, used to move the water around, and the mills for the grinding of the salt. The owners grandson sang us the old sea shanty used as they counted the baskets of salt that they gathered in the harvest each august. His wife gave us the tour and really Brought it all alive. It was really a wonderful visit and highly recommended. We simply drove out in our hire car - the tours that seem to be advertised are v espensive indeed.

Family run salt harvesting business and museum. Admission to the museum includes a tour. The guide explains the process, tools, history and evolution of the industry. And it was really interesting! One son runs the museum, and if he is your tour guide you get to hear him sing worker songs. Great experience in a low key environment.

The salt museum is, like the salt mine, family-run by the owner's family. The guided tour is given by the grandchildren of the now deceased grandfather who talk about the functioning of the salt pans and the lives of those who worked there. Absolutely worth doing.

Interesting yes for charity but certainly earn more with these peeudo guided tours than with salt. It costs too much to have any curiosity of popular cultira and nothing else related to salt.
The salt harvest takes place only in spring so we did not do it.
I expected more also because of previous reviews
Go ahead, yes, but those with free drills along the way to Marsala are also fine

The tiny Salt Museum at the Trapani salt flats is enchanting. It's not really a museum - more a beautifully set-out account of the way that salt is traditionally made here to this day, with an excellent short video and a small number of very interesting items of equipment. It's in a salt mill, so you can see the machinery/grindstones, and excellent info boards accompany the shovels, archimedes screws etc. It overlooks the salt pools and you can see the people shovelling up the salt into piles as they've done for centuries. And it's right beside the ferry motorboat to Mozia and an excellent cafe/restaurant (Mamma Caura, which is usefully on satnav systems so a good way of navigating here). I wasn't on a guided tour, but the information in the museum is first-class so I had all the info that I wanted.

What a pleasant surprise! Small museum, but it tells quite a story. We were fortunate to have Irene Culcasi, a member of the family that has owned the museum for generations, give us a tour. Wonderful exhibits that spoon feed the salt process to lay people. Then we walked the exterior salt basins and reviewed what we'd learned from Irene about old-school salt harvesting. Well worth the stop!

Buonasera vorrei sapere quanto costa il biglietto d'ingresso perché vorrei portare i miei alunni a vedere le saline e quanto è lontano da Trapani. Sono insegnante d'italiano in Francia. Grazie
