Walk along Via Della Torre Clementina until the end of the pier. Try to get a spot at the very end of it. Sit down. Prepare your camera. Wait for the sunset. Awe. Many larger and smaller restaurant along the road, but I recommend a stop by the trailler almost at the intersection with Via Portuense, where they sell porchetta sandwiches in fresh bread and with grilled vegetables at your choice.

We recently had an 8 hour layover at Rome's Fiumicino Airport. After reading reviews, we realized it wasn't enough time to enjoy a relaxing day in Rome (plus we had just been in Rome 3 months ago) so we looked for something to do in the area. We were blessed with a beautiful Fall day. We hopped in a local cab to Via Della Torre Clementina, a commercial street that runs alongside a canal from the sea. We spent a lovely 4.5 hours and easily passed the time strolling along the water, having fantastic pizza at Pizza Porto, watching the mid-afternoon arrival of all the fishing boats (and the subsequent crowds coming to buy fish right off the boat), savoring terrific gelato, sipping some wine during sunset at one of the many pubs and ending our day with a stop in the local supermarket for some goodies to bring home.

The original Tower of Clementina was destroyed during WW2, but it has been partially restored as part of a cluster of housing. The street outside runs alongside the quays where ships used to load and unload their cargo in the 50's and 60's. Now there are a handful of trawlers using the quay. The street has several small restaurants and shops. There is a pleasant walk to the end of the stone jetty at the end of the street, past the original pilots' station.

You can relax along the water as you stroll this promenade on the harbor in Fiumicino.
The fishing boats are coming in from the sea to the Tiber River and then going out from the Tiber to the sea. Sunsets, water, a cool breeze....what more could you ask for when you are technically still in Rome? All of these attributes plus a real neighborhood with parents pushing their children in strollers, restaurants, cute shops. What's not to love?

Lovely place to sit and stroll along at any time of the day or night. Lots going on with the small fishing craft and yachts coming and going and also the street vendors selling their wares

Took us around 10 minutes to walk, there is a bunch of foreigners selling cheap stuff and some locals fishing on the harbor. In general, it was ok to walk a bit, we found a nice restaurant and jumped in. There are views from the Tiber and the Mediterranean, our hotel (Hotel Tiber) was prety close.
Would I drive just to see this? No
Would I walk outside the hotel to have a look and smell the fish? Sure

Wow how can this slice of paradise be a 10 minute ride from the airport? It feels like you are far away from a city - on the banks of the river Tiber and the sea, it is very relaxing and beautiful! MANY delicious restaurants here, gelato, etc - great place to see if you have a long layover or need to spend a night, as I did, before traveling on.

It was just 10 mins’ drive from the Fiumicino Airport. The small area was around the river going to Mediterranean Sea. There were lots of seafood restaurants around the 2 banks providing good seafood. A leisure walk to river mouth was relaxing too.

A small sailing and fishing port with a canal that is flanked by restaurants, gelato shops and a few stores. There is a walking bridge across the canal and piers on both side that you can walk out to the end and view the Bay and the Sea. One of the view places i've visited this trip that was not overwhelmed with tourists. I nice layover spot or a place where you could spend a few enjoyable days enjoying decent dining and the Sea.
