This natural short walk gorge is,quite a challenge to drive to!!a 7km dirt dusty non asphalt ,someparts rocky road. But we got there!a snack trucj there offerd anacs and icy alpha beer!!
This time of year Late June.. after 1100am its a walk in the sun and its dam hot +- 30degs
Look along the gorge, spectaciular caves hugeabd gaping above. The stoney beachside is vast and one could catch a little patch of rock shade before plunging into the fantastically clear blue waters The swim was heavenly out to bay after the wadi bed ends.
probably best to do this early morn, for those who prefer out of sun heat.

The small hike between high rock faces is already beautiful. Caves can be admired here and there in the rocks. Oleander bushes bloom in the gorge. Then just before the finish line stands a small church directly on the rock. It's really beautiful! If you continue directly on the rock, you come to a cave into which you can go bent down. There's an altar in the cave.
Once you have seen this one, you only walk a short distance to the bay. It is worth hiking here. However, there are many stones on the beach and no shade at lunchtime.

Sometimes I read other reviews on TA & I wonder if they even went to the same place. Yes, the setting of the beach is gorgeous, but the actual beach is stone & tidal mud. And the stones are very, very hot in the midday sun & painful to walk on or to get in/out of the water. The drive in starts from the monastery & it is narrow & very bumpy. The switchbacks are easy going in but they can be challenging on the way out (going up). After several kms you will reach the 1st parking area which is a 45 minute walk from the last parking area - which is a 30 minute walk from the actual beach. Your car rental is NOT insured for off-road so decide what risk factor you are comfortable with. While the road to the last area is mostly fine, there are a couple of nasty rocks in areas which could easily take out a muffler or a diff. The actual gorge walk is quite nice with multiple paths winding through oleanders & the river bed, passing the abandoned chapel in the last stretch, all the while with towering rock walls on both sides. In the wet season it would be challenging if not impossible. And in the heat of the summer, the walks can be cruel but at least you get to swim at the end. Not so walking out however . . .

There are no facilities at all at the beach or during the walk.

The ultimate climbing destination with countless secured routes...
Remote and with no good street approaching it, it still remains tourist free...
Only few visit and it is gorgeous!

We went to Agio Farago from Heraklion by our rental Toyota Yaris. The drive took us 2 hours. We navigated to Monastery Odigitrias. After monastery the normal road ends and the dusty and bumpy road starts. The first section (to the first parking place) was relatively OK. We tried to go further, the road went worse and narrow. After few minutes we decided to park the car near the road, because it was really bumpy. We walked to the final parking place for 15 minutes.....for our surprise there were 30-40 cars parked at the end (even smaller then ours). After that the path between beautiful mountains started (nothing hard for normal healthy people). It was really beautiful, with lot of flowers and picturesque views. After 15 minutes we went along the beautiful small Agios Antonios monastery. After another 8 minutes we were at the finish - beautiful beach with small fine pebbles (at the beach and also at the sea bottom). There were maybe 60-80 people, but the natural beach is big, and it was not crowded. The water had 26-27 celsius temperature and was really clean and nice. We were there for 3 hours (from 15:00 to 18:00). Our way back to the car was covered in the shadow, so it was not very hot. I can absolutely recommend this place, it was one of our best trips in the Crete.

Based on the reviews here, I knew it would be a quiete a though road to drive with a small car, but we took our chances with our tiny rental Nissan Micra. I wasn't feeling very comfortable and the road quality was getting worse and worse and worse. About halfway we had to park the car and continue on foot because the road was getting to bad. The walk was hot and dusty and after 30 minutes we reached the actual starting point of gorge. The walk in the gorge was beautiful and another 30 minutes later we reached the little beach. It was a little more crowded then expected but still a beauty. cristal clear waters and not (yet) exploited by humans to make money out of it, the downside of this is that if you want to eat/drink/sunbathe/... you have to bring everything yourselve which can be though. All in all, a great day trip in Crete!

Tip: wear a good pair of shoes!

We did not quite make it to the car park as we felt the track was too rocky to risk in our hired Astra. We had about a 20 minute walk to the car park where we stopped to have lunch at the mobile snack van. Simple but tasty wraps and baguettes. We also bought bottles of frozen water which kept cool for the 20 minutes walk to the beach. After a refreshing swim in the sea we climbed the cliff to see the sea lake. We enjoyed the views. A great few hours.

We walked through this gorge twice. Once in May and once in October. I definitely prefer spring time when everything is green and blossoming.
If you take road from Monastiri Odigitaris to Kali Limenes you can turn right at 34 56 55 N , 24 47 45 E and drive down along serpentine road. There are places to leave car under olive trees. Then you can have a walk about 4-5 km to the sea. You can admire really outstanding view. Rocks, birds, oleander bushes and olive trees. Legend says that soul of every hermit who lived in this gorge, after his death stays in olive tree.
About 1 km from the sea you will find small church and well with drinking water.
Beware one thing!
Stick to the path! There are not toilets. If you divert from main path you can step into not very nice surprise.
