There's nearly a hundred locks on the Canal de Midi between the Mediterranean Sea and Toulouse. You can see four of them in Castelnaudary. Worth a detour to see these ancient locks still in operation some 350 years after the Canal was built.

Castelnaudary is a charming little place to visit. The lock system is ancient yet works perfectly ok. A stroll around the canal area builds up a healthy appetite. Well worth a visit.

This is one of the two sets of multiple locks (4) along the Canal du Midi. It is fascinating that they date to the late 1600's. Well worth a quick visit while in the village of Castelnaudary.
