If you have a chance to visit this place, make sure you take it. The drive can take longer than you might think, because the road is sinuous and winds up and down steep mountains and valleys. There are often many cars parked on the side of the road causing something of an obstacle, so you will find you can only drive around 40-50km per hour in many parts. However, this provides the opportunity to safely admire the surroundings as you pass through beautiful forest, with the craggy mountains and needles in the distance. The viewing site for the needles is crowded – parking is at a premium. When we went there, the toilets at the information hut were locked (perhaps due to Covid-19?) – I don’t know what the many visitors did to relieve themselves. The views are spectacular, and there was plenty of grassy space under lovely pine trees for picnics and relaxing. I believe there are some magnificent hikes in the vicinity. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to try them out – I’d love to return and do so.

We did the trek during not so nice weather, so could mostly see the clouds around:). The trail starts in the forest to take you to the less protected side of the mountain - it was windy, so we needed to cover well. We could not do the full trail due to risk of rain (the train could get muddy so it would be harder to go down).

especially when shrouded in mist and as the mist lifts, you glimpse bits of the needles and that made it rather special.

It’s one of the unforgettable places in Corsica. Even if you’re not an experienced climber, you can sense the magnificence of the mountains by starring at the Bavella Needles.

We drove out of Solenzara at about 15:00 in the afternoon, along this spectacular route. It has everything to offer, good road, stunning views, swimming in cool, clear pools as well as enjoying the shade of dense vegetation in the valleys. We were able to stop many places and never paid for parking. In mid June, it was busy but not overcrowded. Towards Zonza it was quieter. We drove to our brilliant and extremely reasonable priced bed and breakfast accommodation in Aullene along beautiful quiet roads where it seemed like there were very few tourists, reaching it at 18:00. A very pleasant drive!
