Definitely It is a nice experience for those of who have not had a close view of a volcano. Nice ride, excellent environment and wonderful view of the Izalco and Santa Ana Volcano

“Mesmerizing!” From the Globetrotter who aim to become the first family to explore all 196 countries!
Dec 2019
As globetrotters who intend to be the planet’s first family to travel to all 196 countries, Volcán de Izalco, near Santa Ana, El Salvador, was a must-see. This is because in this nation, this stratovolcano is an iconic one, even featured on Salvadoran currency. Wikipedia tells me that the volcano erupted continuously from 1770 to 1958. However, even though there weren't any more eruptions since 1966, I did discover fumes and smoke bellowing out from several places. Unfortunately, we became ill right before our journey to the top, which by any means, is extremely strenuous. So we flew our drone instead, and thankfully, we were able to capture all that without laying a foot on the volcano itself. Thanks, DJI! It's truly a globetrotter's dream come true!

my favorite volcano
Dec 2016 • Solo
This volcano can be seen at the front gate of cerro verde national park. If it is sunny, you can see the formation very clearly and if you are lucky you can see the steam too.

Accessabile from the same park as Santa Ana, this is a cool volcano. I did both in the same day - this one was shorter, but harder to climb up and down. Very slippery.

But once you get to the top - you can walk around the whole rim - and look down at the old lava floes below.

Sulphur smoke streams out of crack at the top too - a cool/eerie feeling.

I would highly recommend doing both volcanoes

Hard but short - nice views limited by clouds
Apr 2016 • Friends
This was a quite nice and hard hike. Firstly down 1300 stairs and then up a step volcano. We went for it quite quick and did it in an hour and twenty minutes with a few short breaks.

Views from the top were good but limited due to the haze. It's a proper hike compared to the easier Santa Ana trek.

Nice but there will be better volcanos for sure.

THE BEST VOLCANO VIEW IN EL SALVADOR
Nov 2015 • Business
This was the best volcano view that I saw. You can view this volcano from the highway, Lake Coatepeque and the pacific ocean on a clear day. However the best view is seen from Cerro Verde. I went to Parque Cerro Verde and the Volcano Complex as part of a tour with Salvadorean Tours which included a tour of Lago Coatepeque, the #1 site in El Salvador. Volcano Izalco is my #2 site in El Salvador. I didn't take the challenge of climbing the volcano but I was able to zoom in and get good photos from the Cerro Verde viewpoint and had it been a clearer day I probably would have perfect photos. It was a nice nature tour overall and I would do it again on my own with a rental car because the park is easily accessed by car for an entrance fee of $3 for each foreigner and there is plenty of parking during the weekdays. The view point of Volcano Izalco is one of the first things you see once you enter the park. I highly recommend this beautiful site. I love volcanoes and Izalco is the perfect looking volcano. Happy Travels!!!!

Challenging hike - great views!
Nov 2014 • Couples
Izalco volcano is one of the three volcanos in Cerro Verde park approx 1.5 hours drive west from San Salvador. You should arrive by 11am to the park as armed guards will take you from the park's central parking lot to hike any of the three volcanos - they will not allow you to hike alone if you arrive later because of risk of robbery they say. Park admission is $3.5 USD per person. We chose to hike the Izalco volcano and it takes 2.5-4.5 hours to complete. It is a mild-moderately challenging hike - bring proper hiking footwear. Initially it is approx 1000m downhill from the parking area to get to the base of the mountain, from there approx 1000m uphill over volcanic rock to the top. The crater at the top is still smoking through many small vents in the ground - makes for great photos! A second more direct and dangerous way down for the more adventurous is through a skree chute from the top! Overall an excellent hike. We were told that the Santa Ana volcano while it takes longer to complete is more beautiful and has a lake at the top in the crater - you should consider doing this one too.
