El Salvador is famous for the amount of volcanos it has in it's territory. Santa Ana Volcano is definitely worth a visit, just make sure you have hiking boots and enough water.

This is an incredible experience. The hike isn't too bad in terms of difficulty and once you get to the top it is so worth it. The views are magnificent. Definitely a must do.

I enjoyed the hike to the volcano. Note that it is mandatory to go with a guide. The guides leave everyday at 11:00 AM, so you need to be here on time to be able to join it. It takes about 3 hours in total,...More

Loved this hike! It's quite short and not too strenuous but the views down into the crater and if the surrounding mountains and lakes are incredible! We got chicken buses there and then went up with the guide and police escorts at 11. Other than...More

Not an easy hike, takes about 2.5h each way but well worth is. They only allow one group (which can be very large) a day, and at first it is very slow, then people get spread out and you can go as fast or as...More

So anyone can drive themselves to the park entrance and then wait to join the main group to hike up Santa Ana which leaves around 11am? I'm planning to rent a car while I'm in El Salvador but I hadn't seen many posts from people driving themselves to make this hike, only taking buses from the town of Santa Ana.

Yes! We drove ourselves. I would get there around 10:45. I do hear the bus is cheap, but driving was no problem.
