When booking the massage I felt a bit like I have to be very, very nice or something will happen. people were not really welcoming. the massage itself was really good, professional and relaxing.

After coming to this very low-key area with dirt roads, I didn't expect to find much in the way of splurges. We found a decent enough hotel but they charged $90+ for an hour massage. We sought out a local alternative and saw the two previous positive reviews on Tica Massage on TripAdvisor. It's in a small area with some nice shops (considering the area). There's a little hut on the right with a couple bungalows and a few woman lounging in hammocks and behind the desk. They were able to accommodate two of us right away for a classic massage: $60 for an hour (and they were grateful for a $5 tip). For an extra $5 they will put Aloe Vera on your back in the beginning which was great as we were sunburnt.
My friend and I both agreed the massage was one of the best we have ever had. This is after coming from the Setai in Miami and paying $330 for a mediocre 90 minute massage! I can't wait to go back tomorrow or the next day! Worth every cent, especially if you are a massage addict like me!

I loved this place! The owner, Richard, is super personable and helpful. He chatted with us as we waited for the girls to arrive (we were a little early before they opened) and even let us try the fresh growing star fruit from his tree.
The service from the girls felt like they really were paying attention to my own body, and not just following some sequence they learned. This is key!! As a massage practitioner myself, I couldn’t more highly recommend them for their service, and for their affordable pricing. You should try it :)

Please do not go ever to this place. You will have a horrible experience. We were there to make an appointment and find out about the service. The owner of place was very unfriendly, impolite and crabby and cranky. It looks like he does not want any business. Worst place for massages in Nosara.

I recently spent 10 days in Nosara and it was pure heaven EXCEPT for the deplorable customer service at Tica Massage. They were rude from the moment we set foot on property and very antagonistic with myself and other surfers who were trying to relax. The front desk girls told lies about what happened on our booking phone call and then the boss was rude beyond belief. The saddest part of the whole experience was to watch the chlidren of the staff. They screamed at us to get out and then spit on us as we left.
They certainly do not represent "Pura Vida"!

I'm sure the massages here are fine but the service is the worst I've ever heard of. Please don't go and encourage people like this, there are plenty of other decent places to go.

I literally just had the worst experience of my life. We booked a last minute massage, when we showed up the girls at the front were rude and had an attitude with us. Then they got their "boss" or owner of the place who was equally if not more rude to us. I was trying to calm him down as he thought my friends husband who booked the appointment was rude to them. I complimented his business and said the guy who made the appointment said the massages were great. His response to that was "well that is why I can talk to you this way". His children then proceeded to spit on two of my friends as they shouted at us to get out of there. it was the craziest worst experience ever. I would never recommend this place to anyone, not even to my enemies.

The worst massage I've ever had! I requested a foot massage, thinking I would get some reflexology as advertised. The masseuse did an exfoliating scrub, then absentmindedly (I caught her staring sideways at the wall) rubbed lotion into my feet and lower legs for 15 minutes or so. When I requested "mas duro por favor" she put a little more into it, with a scowl, onto one foot. When I requested the other one she declared we were out of time (25 minutes; the massage was supposed to be a half hour). She sounded sick (sniffles) so I thought maybe that was the reason for her heartlessness but afterwards she greeted her next client, apparently a Costa Rican, with energetic enthusiasm. I guess she just doesn't like Americans ;-(

I was in need of a massage after the drive and some back issues, and it was my honeymoon. So everyone said Tica massage was great. I wish. I got a 90 min. massage. When I first booked the appt. there was misunderstanding about the times and the length of the massage, but that was easily changed (and probably had to do with my lack of the Spanish language). The massage itself was painful, and I felt like I was being scrubbed more than massaged. I asked her to slow down and my body language was definitely telling her it hurt, but she did nothing to change this. I myself am a massage therapist, and have gotten quit a few bad massages in school and some amazing ones. I was just waiting for it to be over. Luckily, I don't mind the faster tempo on my lower body, but my back was what needed the most work.
I am sure there are some GREAT therapist at Tica Massage, and maybe mine was having a bad day, but I left in more pain and frustrated. So my review is not good.

There are other options in town where you are treated like a customer, not a vehicle for cash transmission. Staff is aggressive and rude. I will avoid this place like the plague and encourage others to do the same.
