This review is related to fishing. We had a great experience with Cacho and his crew! Was just my brother and I - - we jumped on his boat 7 AM on a gorgeous morning, and within 30 minutes we were beginning to pull fish into the boat. Cacho was super cool and we had a lot of laughs together and a beautiful half day on the water, fishing was great and Cacho & his partner were the perfect mix of friendly and interactive but also professional and making sure the fishing was seriously happening. We ended up getting a bit of a discount (since the smaller boat we wanted wasn’t available that day) and so there wasn’t supposed to be any beer or anything included, but he was nice enough to openly share all his stuff the whole time anyway, and we ended up leaving with enough caught tuna meat to have ceviche and fillets for the rest of our time (1 week) in our rental there. Cacho was the perfect fit for us – we were not looking for any kind of super formal/business only experience yet also didn’t want to just spend half a day drinking on a boat in the sun w/o any real fishing - Cacho read our interests perfectly, and the day was better than we could have hoped for. We also saw humpback whales & spinning/jumping mantas, gorgeous day on a great boat. He’s also local and super knowledgeable on all kinds of other activities and advice if you ask, though not at all trying to sell you anything. Very laid back and easy going. Will definitely be calling him again when we are back in the area for another trip on the water – definitely recommend. Thanks again Cacho!

My husband and I went on an amazing snorkeling tour with Capitan Andrey. He took us to Pink Island on Valentine’s Day and later he caught a tuna and we had the freshest sashimi I have ever eaten! We had so much fun with Andrey that we booked a second tour and took our son and his girlfriend with us. On that trip we got to explore the centuries old sunken ship and also spied a very active whale jumping out of the water and slapping his tail on the surf. This experience was all we hoped for. Andrey was very flexible and accommodating with us. I’m so glad we did this trip!

Deep sea fishing:
This outing was super fun! We caught much more fish than I expected, including tuna and mahi-mahi. Even my kids who don’t like fishing still had so much fun on the boat, and we even got to see a bunch of dolphins! Overall great experience for everyone!
ATV:
This was a great trip! It was thrilling to drive through the mountains and see all the amazing views, especially from the very top. After driving up the mountain, we were lead to a beautiful waterfall with a deep pool to swim in, and ate very refreshing watermelon. Super fun!
Paddle boarding/kayak:
It was great to see all the nature and wildlife up close. We also got to go to the beach which had some fun waves and great places for pictures. Lots of fun!

I discovered Cacho's Surf School quite by accident and couldn't have had a better surf lesson or experience with anyone else!! He is an INCREDIBLE instructor - I've taken several surf lessons in the past and Cacho was by far the best - I was up on waves but also learning so much about how to surf solo in the future. And he was especially conscious of my safety every minute and took all the fear out of the waves and replaced it with a big huge smile through the whole lesson. Surf with Cacho!!!!

We were originally trying to go on a snorkeling trip to Playa Rosada, but the waves were too big for visibility, so we turned it into a fishing trip instead. Andrey (Cacho) was a great guide and host. He picked us up at our hotel, and brought fresh pineapple and watermelon and a few cervezas. The "water taxi" from the beach to his boat was a cool experience itself. And then Andrey put us on a bunch of mahi. He filleted all the fish on the boat. We caught enough mahi to bring back and feed a whole crew where we were staying. Great vibes, easy going, and fun -- everything you could want in a local guide.

We dealt with 3 guys while we were there. Only 1 of them treated us like customers, Frank. We didn't go back there again for the rest of our stay and rented from a much more respectful shop further from the beach. Check over your board VERY carefully. They will try to charge you for dings in the board that were there when you got it.

This nice quaint surf schools is right off the beach and most likely the most convenient one you will find in Playa Guiones. The convenience only adds to the most friendly and local feel. We rented our boards all week and on our last day I decided to take a lesson with one of their great instructors. If you can I would ask for Diego, (That being said I do not know all of them) who couldn't be nicer and made it his mission to become my friend from the moment we met. Not only was he helpful in the water, but he also gave me advise on what board to buy if I was interested in getting one back home and I am happy to say that I already have two in my house in Long Island. All in all, Cacho's is the perfect place to rent boards and take lessons.

Cacho and Chico are the best! Wish we could have hung out with them some more during our time in Nosara. Took a surf lesson with Chico who was very patient and motivating, not to mention hilarious. The next day we went on a SUP tour with Cacho who was equally as hilarious, taught us a few things about tico life, and provided us with an overall chill but awesome afternoon. There are so many surf schools to choose from in Nosara and this is a great place for beginners or those not looking to stress themselves out about learning. Keep it up dudes, you're awesome!

Andre, Chico and Frank - Thanks for making our trip to Guiones great!
We rented surf boards and boogies, my daughter took a surf lesson, we went on a SUP tour through the mangrove and even booked our horseback riding tour at Cachos.
Don't bother flying from the states with boards - This shop has a super simple check in and out process, and as soon as you build some trust with them, you can swap boards with speed and ease. We frequently used different boards for multiple sessions each day and had fun riding everything in the quiver. The shop is the closest to the main Guiones beach area so it doesn't get more convenient and they put a lot of effort into maintaining their boards so everything is in like new condition.
Frank is a great instructor for beginners and had our teenage daughter riding waves in no time. Definitely go for the SUP tour to the 'black beach' where you'll paddle up through a mangrove river to an isolated break for a morning session and fresh pineapple on the beach.
Be cautious if you book a horse tour here because it's not their primary business and we ended up being taken advantage of financially(by the horse riding guys, not Cacho''s) as a result. I suggest you just book this directly.
On our way out of town, we didn't have time to return our rental beach chairs. Andre took care of them for us and dropped them off the next morning saving us a ton of stress and hassle.
Whether they are shouting-out to you in the line-up or pointing you towards a great place to eat, this crew helped make our entire vacation great!
