Boat temples
Nov 2019
This temple is not the normal temple if such a description of "normal" can apply to most Thai temples. They are not really tourist attractions for foreigners but either working temples for Thai Buddhists or monuments to the Buddha or revered monks.
Anyway what makes this site special are the two boat temples, one a landlocked replica of the royal barge complete with royal oarsmen and another a boat temple on a lake. Add to that a beautiful 3-storey bell tower and a 3-headed elephant at the entrance and you can see why even Thai tourist buses visit here.
A little bit distant from the centre of town but well worth the effort

An impressive and attractive complex of buildings and a pleasant walk around a lake. Turtles and a lot of fish to feed. Well worth visiting

Isan Temple

Located in local side of Ubonratchathani. A nice sanctuary pond where local Buddhists have released fishes and turtles back to live in nature. Merchant sell animal food before we cross the bridge.

one of the most beautiful wats
Oct 2016 • Couples
After you pass through a huge elephant entrance, there is an enormous boat with statues of oarsman, very impressive near the entrance. Then you can climb a bell tower, rather steep steps, and bang on the bells and gongs there. Most fun is the wat itself, it projects into a lake with many fish, you can buy bread and throw it into water, many many large fish gobble it up. Both beautiful and lots of fun. A hug Golden Buddha overlooks the whole scene.

Visited on our bike tour

This place was spectacular. Really good fun and beautiful in its extended grounds. On the bike tour route we took. Well worth the peddle. Various buildings within the walled complex. Beautiful candles being made as well. Fabulous
