Cute foxes, but place is rundown
Oct 2019
It took a bit of effort to locate the place, even with the GPS. Eventually, we just followed a tour bus which seemed to be headed in the same direction. The so-called farm is a rather rundown little open space for a group foxes and couple of what were termed raccoon dogs. One has to keep to the open pathway and not stray onto the grass where the foxes frolicked. It was a cool experience to have such close contact with the animals which were not caged. More could have been done, I suppose, to keep the foxes stimulated in their living environment. As it is, it seems to only be some sheds and grass patches for them to run around in. There wasn't much information to explain what the foxes usually do and what we could expect to see from them. If there were, maybe they were in Japanese and we did not recognise them to be such.

Free roaming cute foxes
Jan 2019 • Couples
The place was quite rundown. We paid 500 yen for one adult. The foxes were not caged and were roaming freely. However, they seem to be very afraid of visitors. We were there in the afternoon and most of them were asleep. You're not supposed go step outside the pathway. So it was not very interactive. We couldn't take much nice pictures as they were sleeping far away. Recommended to spend 30mins to an hour at this attraction.

Enjoyable Encounter
Feb 2018 • Couples
The idea of a Fox farm can be misleading, more so when there are Fox fur products on sale at the gift store. I spent a good 2 hrs here, unlike most tourists who average 15 mins as a pit stop for the buses. It was a wonderful and enjoyable experience to have such a close encounter with so many foxes and observing their interactions with each other. As a conservationist, I wish that more could be done to the setup than just a tourist attraction. Firstly, the environment is in dire need of improvement to create a more natural habitat for the foxes. The open space is too bare and this makes the foxes look like moving exhibits. There is a lack of external stimulation and the foxes look bored. The few broken sheds showed a lack of interest in their well being. It also fails to entice tourists to revisit or stay longer to learn about these foxes other than a photo stop. In the long run, this model is not sustainable. I’ve seen many successful setups in Japan, be it museums or zoos, and this sanctuary for old, injured or rescued foxes has so much potential. Generally, the place is clean and the foxes healthy looking. There is a good bonding between them and the caretaker as they were responding to their given names. The only nuisance posed are from poorly behaved humans who made too much noises, threw snow at the foxes and chased them. As such, more awareness should be created by the guides and posters at the entrance. There should also be more interesting souvenirs at the gift store unique to the setup other than the usual food and souvenirs found throughout Hokkaido. I hope to return to this place someday as the foxes are quite endearing and well behaved.

Pleasant aurpaie
Oct 2017 • Couples
We drive and arrived mid-morning at the place, it looked deserted and the non-descript building did not add to its appeal, was worried it was a tourist trap.
Went in nevertheless and it was a pleasant surprise. Once u are in the building, the path leads to another gate which opened up to a small park where the red foxes roam or in our case, most were lying n sleeping. There were no cages or fences separating us from the foxes though we have to stay on the garden path which cuts through the park.
Nice enough experience and had the opportunity to feed a fox (the park trainer was friendly and offerred me their dry food and told me which specific fox to feed) and take pictures.

Are the foxes shy or unhappy?
Sep 2017 • Family
There were around 60 red foxes in a fairly spacious compound but the exterior looked run down.

It was pleasant to see foxes up close and roaming around. However, some were in cages. Overall they didn't look satisfied and some were quite skinny. It was a bit of a let down as the foxes were clearly unenthusiastic just like the park staff. Foxes are beautiful like many animals but they really didn't look happy. Maybe by their nature, they tend to be shy and weary with human visitors in close proximity. Maybe they were over crowded.

My kids always get excited with the zoo or farm but they didn't enjoyed this place much. Hmm...

Our GPS pointed us only to the Clock Tower outside, so if you drive, just follow the signboard to get behind the building after the Clock Tower and you will see the farm. You will need to cross a little bridge to get here.

A good stop en route to Abashiri
Jul 2016 • Family
You can walk right up to the red foxes here but must not touch them. They are used to visitors but there really isn't much to do. 500 yen for a 30 minute walk thru is about enough, and you can get back on the road towards Abashiri.

Place With Little Activities
Jul 2015 • Couples
I must first admit that I fell in love with those innocent and sweet looking foxes however the park is so small! I complete within an hour after travelling a distance just for this park.
There isn't any other activities which we can engage ourselves in too.

Up close and personal
Greetings from Geoffrey Goh!

The entrance of this fox farm is not glamorous and may even look old for some.

We were greeted at the gate by a red fox just 30 cm away.

We were a bit fearful at first and were hesitant to push the metal gate open.

It beckoned us in as it moved nearer towards us.

We entered.

There were at least 50 foxes roaming freely in this farm. They looked friendly but would ran away whenever we were too near.

If you are an animal lover, you will enjoy this up close and personal encounter of the fox kind!
