Guided Tour of the Historic San Sebastian Basilica (Manila)

Discover San Sebastian Basilica, the first and only all-metal building in the Philippines, that sits in a quiet pocket of the historic Quiapo district in Manila. A crossroads of history and innovation, the 126-year-old Basilica was constructed by an international village: Belgian steel, German stained windows, a Spanish engineer, and Filipino art students from the turn of the century Philippines artfully transforming the metal interior into a design that stays true to the Gothic Revival style. The guided tour includes access to the church floor, the choir loft, and the hidden spaces not usually accessible to the public, like the attic and the belfries.

Explore to Restore! My parents retired to San Juan and when my family visits we usually attend mass at this church. The first mass at 6:30 am on Sunday is in Ilocano. If you remember your catechism you should not have a problem following along. The order of mass and the words to the hymns are projected on a screen at the front of the church. The second mass at 8:30 am is in English. The church does not have air conditioning but there are several electric fans along the walls. A hand held fan is helpful if you go to the second mass since the church gets very hot.

We attended last Palm Sunday mass here, unfortunately the mss is Ilocano (but the they have English also just check the mass schedule) that's why we hardly understand it. The church is beautiful and the surroundings are nice. It is one ride tricycle from Sebay Surf Central.

A nice church, not overstated or too fancy. Nice for short visit or quiet contemplation. Worth a visit if you are in town with a few minutes to spare

The building is really old and not well maintained. There are areas with vandals. Good location because it has a park nearby.
