Jack Weber rated #1 starter in North America 26 years straight. If your ball is heading towards some trees you can yell his name and your ball is almost guaranteed to bounce off the tree and into the fairway. He can also help with your Peyronie slice if you ask nicely.

My name is Doug Dumaine : I was golfing at the Goose on may 29th 2013 . The weather not that nice, thought I would golf nine holes and see if it was going to rain. After nine I went in to pay for the other nine. The golf attendant said he needed to refund me for the first nine then charge me for eighteen. Ok makes scene, but he charged me for another nine, then preceded to charge me for eighteen .So when I received my bank statement and noticed this I phoned and talked to the general manager he said I will give you a round of golf , I said well I've already paid for the golf !so you are doing nothing for me to have to drive all the way back there from the city? He said yes we will refund your money !(Thinking in my mine that, (YOU HAVE TO DO THIS ANY HOW ! ) I said "you could give me a free round of golf for my inconvenience"! General manager tells me sorry we can't do that . I said well if you did that would be good customer service ! General manager said no we can not do that ! I said wow ! Told him I would be there the next morning thinking maybe the do something then! Well when I got their they gave me the credit and said no we can not do anything for your inconvenience ! I asked to talk the owner they told me the ownership board said for the general manger to deal with it ! ISAY THAT THE GOOSE HAS THE WORSED CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE GOLF WORLD THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN ! THIS IS A PROVINCE WITH A GOLF COURSE EVERY KILOMETER ! WELL GOOD LUCK GOOSE HUMMOCK .........YOU SUCK WHEN DEALING WITH PEOPLE ! sighed unhappy customer Doug Dumaine.

The Good- The Not so Bad- and the Ugly
First off, I just want to say that I enjoyed playing there for the whole 2011 season as an unlimited golf weekday membership, which I added a gas golf cart pass to as well. This all came at a cost of about $1600.00, which included a Drive Range pass, with all grass hitting area, a nice touch that allowed you to warm up before and hit balls after your round. The only thing I didn’t like is that there’s no sand bunker to practice out of. And there is only one hole # (17) on the course that does not have a sand trap on it.
When I say that I enjoyed it all- I mean all except for an incident that occurred on October 4th this year, which I’ll call “the Ugly” I’ll get into it at the end of the review. I must say that in all the years I’ve been golfing and with all the memberships I’ve had over the years- Never have I seen such lack of integrity and un-professionalism from a course “assistant pro”.
This was not my first year playing here. I also had a membership here about seven years ago and played the course for a couple years.
The course itself is situated about 30 minutes north of Edmonton. Which is not too far to drive in my opinion, however, the gas bill adds up for a whole season of golf. Also if you drive a nice new and clean vehicle, you should be aware that the 500 yards or so that you must drive off the highway , when you get there-is not paved, nor is their parking lot and the car wash fees can also add up over a season.
It’s a wonderful 18 hole Championship Course designed by Bill Robinson which is a combination of Scottish and Everglades architecture. It plays from 5377 yards up to 6500 yards from the gold tee boxes. If you like water hazards then this is a course for you, because there is about 15 water hazards on the18 holes of play. This is a very challenging course from novice to pro. Personally, I don’t think you can play this course without losing a few balls. This course is target golf at its best.
It also has a nice club house that is fairly well stocked and restaurant, patio dining and banquet facilities. There are about three out-house type washrooms on the course itself and they are adding one new modern washroom, I see near the 5th tee Box. You should also know that the Hummock hosts many golf tournaments each year and this does cut into the members golf games quite heavily.
The course itself starts out with demanding and well placed tee shots and this continues throughout .The course has matured nicely over the years with a mixture of trees that line all of the golf holes. I must say that the Geese like to hang out here, hence the courses name Goose Hummock. And they are pretty to look at but be prepared to see a lot of Goose S-t. There are even protected areas with rare birds. This year the course had a record of rain water that over flowed its ponds, although the water levels are looking quite low as late.
The shape of the course is excellent, including the greens. They don’t keep the greens very fast here for putting but not to slow either. One of the things they have done here which I don’t care for is to rope entire fairways off from the cart path with green colored rope, on nine out of eighteen holes, they really are a nuisance- you have to step over the rope all day and this presents tripping hazards in my humble opinion. Plus you have to grab two to three clubs because you can’t tell from the cart path which is your ball out of the four that could be laying out there depending on how many in your group.
I understand the intention that keeping carts off the fairways will keep the fairways nicer, but I have golfed courses like Predator Ridge and Tobiano and Sun Peaks, Golden, Black Bull ,etc. , with far superior fairways that are literally like the greens themselves and guess what – No fences! Or roped off fairways and No Cart Damage at all!
There is also one hole number 15, with elevated back tee boxes and steep stairs , they have this hole entirely roped off as well, and if your tee shot is along the tree line good luck trying to figure out where to stop your cart down below the elevated fairway , and then what club to grab becomes an issue, Plus it can obviously, really slow up play .
There are some of the most beautiful scenic holes on this course and delightful little Squirrels racing around as well, and along with all the ponds and meadows it’s very special. There is even an island green here that swallows golf balls galore. And 18 is a beautiful finishing hole, with a big pond to the right, with the majestic looking clubhouse in the background. It has a demanding second shot into the par four elevated green.
So if you are up for a super challenge, on a really nice course, I suggest that you give the Hummock a try. I am confident that you will be glad you did.
Ok- now for the Ugly- First I want to say this was an isolated incident and in no way meant to reflect on other course management personal.
To be short as possible, I was extending my rounds play with a few extra holes as I often did and it was only 5 pm approx. So on the third hole, the assistant pro (I’ll just call Cg) came racing up to the third tee box, parking in front of it. Ranting “WHAT’s GOING ON MAN?” and “WHAT ARE YOU DOING MAN”, repeatedly. ???? Daaaa… I was in shock, “Nothing”- “Playing golf “, I managed to muster up a reply. “THE COURSE IS CLOSED! TAKE YOUR CART BACK TO THE CLUBHOUSE!
Closed? I said. “Since when, does the course close at 5 pm?” (actually it was 5:15pm)
“SINCE YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE ON IT AND I IT’S COLD AND RAINY AND I WANT TO GO HOME!”
OK, fine but why all the ranting. Anyway I felt disrespected and I am no diplomat but know that (Cg) did, was a display of un-Professionalism and certainly lacked any integrity.
Now comes the real issue for me .The next day I went in to tell the head pro (MF) what took place and also called first to say that “If (Cg) had the power to shut the course down early then I want to know in advance of coming out so I could ensure I will get a round of golf in” as it’s a thirty minute drive to the course and another 30 minutes’ drive back home again. So when I got there I took the opportunity to vent my disappointment for (Cg’s) previous day’s behavior. I expected an apology. But to my surprise (Cg) responded by saying that I was lying and that he did not shut the course down and that he in fact stayed at the course until 7:30 pm . So now I am thinking WOW This brings this thing to a whole new level- because if this guy is capable of lying about what took place, Plus falsely accuse me of lying, then what else is he capable of lying about. Next he’ll say I hacked a tree down on the course and try to get me banned from the property, or who knows what.
So what do I do now? I have been trying to get hold of an owner of the course just to tell him what happened that day, so at least there is some sort of accounting of the incident. As a owner- I would definitely what to hear about this.
Unfortunately this happened and I can only speculate as to why. I know it’s his word against mine and he is just trying to protect his job. The pro agreed that his conduct was out of line but of course, (Cg) works under him and he is supporting him and that is that. The head pro even asked me not to discuss the incident with any of the other members- (You’ve got to be kidding me-I don’t think so)!
I Know- I Know- S-T Happens, right! Hey this could happen to you, as well.

Stopped here for lunch on a nice summer day. Didn't golf, visited the clubhouse for lunch and a drink. Average food, but nice deck overlooking a pond. Very nice spot for lunch.

The Goose is a nice course, I have been golfing it for years and have enjoyed it. It was good value and the prices were fair and offset the drive. They have increased the prices this year and believe that they have overpriced themselves. I can play The Quarry for a few dollars more and I don't have to drive out past Gibbons.

An outstanding test of golf, a thinking man's course. This
course uses all the clubs in the bag but be careful when you pull that driver out. Water on 14 of the 18 holes and where the term target golf may have originated. Always in tremendous condition. A must play.

Cart paths in need of sand and aggregate - if you're not going to fill the holes now (June 2019) when are you going to do it - in September? in a couple of years? Tee boxes need to be hosed off and benches need the cob webs wiped off. If this course gets too much rain, they stop power carts with little discount and they do not have enough pull carts. Also there is no beverage cart on these days. We paid $20 less to golf Northern Bear on Canada Day long weekend -- with power cart. It is cool to say "hey, I can hear the dinosaurs".

Last year was the 1st year with a full membership at "the Goose" -probably the best money I have ever spent on golf. Membership costs are the best in the greater edmonton area and I really never wanted to play much elsewhere. Everywhere in Alberta, the early thaw and late freeze, caused considerable damage - Goose Hummock had minimal issues that were rectified quickly. Less than a 30 min drive from Edmonton -This place is a gem!!

Played here this morning. Nice friendly pro shop staffs. Attentive cart lady.
Tee boxes well marked. Fairways well maintained. Greens were a bit slow but got use to it. Pace of play very smooth.
Overall 5 stars.
