Around 50km from Doha direct on Q1 freeway to Al Khor, passing through Al Khor to Thakhira. Thakhira has one of the largest Mangroves in Qatar and a natural peaceful haven. At the seafront in Thakhira there is a public beach with umbrellas and seating along with a small marina with parking which have great views across to the mangroves. Toilet facilities in marina buildings. You can also get to the beach in the mangrove area from the other side of Thakhira with a 2-3 km off road trail drive to the beach area where outside of Covid restrictions are kayaking facilities and a nice beach. Whole area is a fresh air change from Doha and well worth the 40 minute drive out for a day on the beach or picnic.

It is one of my favorite Location in Qatar. The view from this location, is fantastic and mesmerizing one. The location I am spotting is Quite away from actual Thakhira beach. It is a about 8-10 km big "U" turn off-road (still rigid enough to go with sedan car) covering Island, straight opposite to Al Thakhira beach facing water body.
We went as a group of families, and did Camping here with nice BBQ. Safe place for family, spotted flamingos near to mangrove reserve. This location claims as the Largest Mangrove Nature Reserve in Qatar.
A early morning or evening can be opt one to enjoy the beach, birds, fishing and camping. Carry your food and snack before planning to go there. Or buy your food (shawarma or filafil) near the small restaurant in Al Thakhira beach.
Evening sunset is favorite for photo enthusiasts.

If you are staying in Qatar for about a week, you should try to visit the beach at Al Thakira early in the morning. You can hire a boat and go boating.
You can explore around the mangrove plantations. There is an old abandoned mosque near the beach. If you climb up its minaret (tower), you can have a beautiful view of the surroundings. Some locals come to catch fish here.

At the Doha Golf Club roundabout, drive to Al Khor on Route 1A for 37 km. Pass through the town and bear left at the northern end of the Corniche, heading towards Al Thakira. Turn right at the next roundabout, take the first left and pass through the gap between the houses. Heading left away from the village, pass the car park and jetty onto a track across the salt marsh, which eventually leads to a small wadi (desert ditch) and then to the beach. At high tide the salt marsh can turn treacherous, so park near the wadi unless in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

There are 8 major mangrove sites here in Doha. Qatar may be a desert country but still, the flora and fauna do exist.
Bird-watching is popular out here, even sea turtles arrive to lay their eggs as well. Of course, the best way to get a real sense of these water-front forests is by boat. Visitors can either rent one or have an organized tour. We approach them by car but unfortunately, we just spent a couple of hours by the coast only.
The water is very shallow and muddy but I do get a long stroll to exercise and collect shells. On the whole it is a pleasant day outing
Locals come here for a picnic but unfortunately, they leave behind plastics and paper plates and anything you can think of.

It not well known for expats in qatar but its extermely beutifull.
I go more than once yearly specially at rainy winter days.
The view is unique unlike other beaches of qatar.
One more secret is a tasty fish lunch in alkhor "beirut restaurant " on the way back to doha.
Get your fish ready from the fish market just opposite the restaurant and get them grilled fo you and connect to the local wifi, then give me yiur feed back!

Very nice, and green place unlike the rest of Qatar. Also it's very good spot for fishing and catching big fish.

This is a great place to get away from the city and enjoy a day of watersports. However, it is blistering hot if the wind is blowing from the land. If the wind is blowing from the gulf, it is much more tolerable. There is a great deal of trash strewn across the beach although trash cans are provided. Don't expect a sandy beach, it is mostly rocks of various sizes, so you will want some solid footware. Bring your own shade, as there are few trees actually on the beach. There are NO facilities on this beach, so you may want to bring your own.

I only went there to try kayaking with Paddle Qatar, but it was such a long drive!
It was a bit windy which made it harder to paddle. We were also disappointed that the flamingos weren't there, but it was refreshing to see different scenery. Overall, I don't regret it, but wouldn't do it again. (I would also advise you to be selective about what you wear there).
