First, let's start with fishing. Our weather was cold and wet but we had appropriate gear. Ken and Bev found us a nice spot where the water was a bit choppy but it looked promising. The fishing was great! We pulled up fish after fish after fish. Bev made us snacks which, I'm told, were delicious but I was too seasick to enjoy them. We moved to another spot and had equally great fishing (but a different fish). We were told what each fish was and how to prepare it. The fishing was a lot of fun. Afterwards, we were planning on taking our catch over to a local restaurant to have it cooked up for us for dinner.
That great day of fishing would have been enough for the excellent rating. But, here is where we Phantom Charters goes well beyond the normal charter. I got really seasick on this trip. As such, I was really eager to get off the boat. Unfortunately for me, the dock was wet and slippery and I fell hard onto the bottom step. Let me stress that this is NOT Phantom's fault as they had just told me to be careful. I'm just that uncoordinated that I cracked my back on the wooden steps. As I was lying there, screaming in agony, I remember the calm voice of Ken and Bev. Ken was talking to me reassuringly. Bev was getting stuff to help me. After I calmed a little, Ken helped me up to my knees. Bev wiped the mud off of me. They both helped me to the car so I could be taken to the hospital.
The story does not stop here, though. While I was in the hospital getting X-Rays, Ken and Bev took our catch of the day, filleted it (as they normally would) and took part of it over to the restaurant to have it cooked up for us. They then brought the cooked fish and the remaining uncooked fillets (on ice) to the hospital for us. My family enjoyed hot, fresh cooked fish while I was in ER. When I heard later, I was just shocked. To do so much for our family in our time of need was just amazing. It is a kindness I will never forget.
