Extraordinary restoration of native gardens
Dec 2020 • Friends
We visited as an adult family group on an overcast summer day. The diversity of Tasmanian ecosystems and chorus of native bird life was remarkable for an often overlooked area of northwest bay coastal terrain. The mixture of open grassland with sculptural exhibits and excerpts of poetry, with numerous diverse sections of native flora and understory to grand eucalyptus trees with atmospheric roaring wind in tree-tops was memorable. The extraordinary diversity of birdsong in such a small area also added to a memorable rambling over a few hours. Their publications on local history, poetry, and photography are also well worth a look.

Wonderful Native Gardens
Nov 2019 • Couples
We were looking for an escape not far from the city so we followed the advice of the airport brochure to Inverawe Gardens and were very pleasantly surprised. They are 22 acres of beautifully landscaped native gardens on the magnificent North West Bay only 15mins drive from Hobart. Parking is easy outside in the lane way behind the Railway Centre at Margate. The site has been planted with over 10,000 Australian Native trees and shrubs. It attracts a 100 species of birds including 12 endemic to Tasmania. It is a wonderful example of converting a former cattle farm to a native garden using sustainable, water wise, low chemical and low maintenance principles. It is a pleasure for the body and soul to visit!

Awesome native gardens
Oct 2019 • Friends
Aptly named - Scottish ‘Inver’ meaning ‘mouth of’ and ‘awe’ - Inverawe is a place of beauty. We were delighted by the variety of native plants from around Australia and the beautiful setting on the edge of Northwest Bay. There’s plenty to entertain along the path and chairs to watch the birds and other surprises. Bill was friendly and a mine of information.

Lovely Garden Oasis
Feb 2019 • Friends
We have been traveling about for 3 weeks and I didn't realize it but I needed a tranquil place of beauty to settle into for a couple of hours. In fact, we all needed it. The gardens are a perfect size for 3 people to find their peace without getting lost. My husband is a hardcore plant enthusiast and he just wandered about the garden enjoying the native plants, our son, a wildlife ecologist, enjoyed seeing the small wallaby's and the large variety of birds and for me, hiking about and taking pictures of the sculptures and reading Bill's poetry. The owners were delightful and fun to talk to. For me, that was a big part of the charm. We had tea on the terrace and enjoyed the view before we left. If you want to get away from the tourist attractions and just have some time to decompress in a place of beauty, Inverawe fits the bill. By the way, as we were leaving a family with small children arrived and their laughter and joy was like music on the wind. Food for families, I think.

Beautiful Gardens
Feb 2019 • Couples
Inverawe exceeded my expectations! Although it had been a very dry summer, the gardens were beautiful! I could have just sat for hours at any of the perfectly placed seats throughout the gardens! So relaxing and peaceful, broken only by choruses of different birds! Its hard to believe this mature couple have spent only 18 years transforming the site to its state today!

This has been a garden on our "to do" list for many years, we finally found the time to visit and will definitely return
Oct 2018 • Couples
This is a delightful 9.5 Ha native garden, the Banskias were superb at the time we visited. The garden is on a steep slope from the road down to the river. However I managed most of the steps, getting down to the water with ease (although slowly) and this was only 3 months post knee replacement surgery.
There is no need to hurry, in fact you need to take time to admire the birds and the incredible array of native plants from most areas of Australia. Well worth a visit, Margaret and Bill are a wealth of information on all the plants and wildlife within their garden. We wished we had time to enjoy tea on the Terrace but that can be for our next visit.

Riverside tranquility and beauty
May 2018 • Couples
Inverawe Native Gardens are the result of long and hard work by its owners. Walking along the paths lead to beautiful views of the river and surrounding countryside. Lots of seats to stop and take in the panorama. Easy strolling at your own pace. This is well worth a visit particularly to see a variety of native trees and plants.

Dedication is obvious
May 2018 • Couples
We enjoyed an hour or two wandering around the 22 Acres of reclaimed land bordering the bay. Paths meandering across the sloped garden allowed us to appreciate the work that has gone into developing this peaceful spot. Plenty of seats were scattered around to provide rest and contemplation- often with views of the bird filled waterline. Quirky additions of sculptures and poetry added interest. Thank you for the privilege of experiencing this garden.

Beautiful native garden - well worth a visit
Apr 2018 • Couples
We weren’t too sure where the gardens were but located them hidden behind the Margate Train. We met the owner who told us the history of the gardens and the work they had put into to create such an amazing array of native plants in such a magnificent setting. Wandered along the pathways reading some of Bill’s creative poems. Loved the creative art figures as you wander along the pathways and located many birds especially near the water. Really appreciated the effort by the owners who put so much hard into creating these beautiful native gardens.
