About East Somerset Railway
A Trip Back In Time Come and meet our friendly staff and take a relaxing ride on our heritage steam train through the beautiful Mendip Countryside. The return journey takes approximately 40 minutes and is a 5 mile round trip. You pay once and you can ride the trains all day! As well as riding the train you can visit our engine shed and workshop and see our restoration projects up close, while away an hour or so chatting away to our very knowledgeable volunteers. We also have a signal box and miniature railway (these are only open on specific dates), museum, a shop and cafe serving delicious homemade meals each day we are in steam. We also offer Cream Teas, High Teas and Sunday Lunches on specific dates which need to be booked in advance as they do sell out very quickly. Our season runs from March to October and then we run our Santa Specials in December.

Have just been on the santa train with our 2 year old, have had a lovely time, staff all super friendly and helpful, the train was spotlessly clean and sanitized between rides, the trip to santa and the home made mince pie was excellent. well worth the visit and a lovely outing all sticking to covid measures but making it a lovely time out. Well worth a visit

It isn't the flying Scotsman doing a ton on the East Coast Line... it is a more gentle and warming experience... Nice cuppa before the trip and then a pot and scones on the short journey... worth every penny and such friendly and helpful staff/volunteers...

We visited here Wednesday just gone and what a way to spend a good few hours. The staff are welcoming and all enthusiastic to what they bring to this part of the world. We visited the engine room before our train ride and the workers were fantastic when talking to us. Highly recommend if you are in Somerset to take time and visit this great attraction.

This railway is located just outside shepton mallet and is signposted. My parent and I visited on a rainy day and went on the steam train, it is a short return journey you can easily do in half a day including a look around a small museum on the platform and the shop. There is a cafe at the departing station and a shop selling souvenirs and model trains. There is plenty of car parking available. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
