Minsmere is a great place to discover nature. The RSPB shop, cafe and visitor centre provide a perfect introduction before you explore the beautiful countryside walks. Enjoy stunning woodland, wetland and coastal scenery and close views of a wide range of wildlife, including many rare species. Families can begin their journey of discovery in the Wild Zone, or build a den in the Wildwood Adventure. The nearby Discovery Centre is perfect for school visits, birthday parties and exhibitions. Self-guided activities include a free explorer backpack to borrow, and there's a regular programme of events in school holidays. Seasonal wildlife highlights include: spring birdsong, nightingales and booming bitterns and nesting avocets; summer butterflies, flowers and nesting terns; autumn migrants, red deer rut and colour; winter ducks, evening roosts of birds and Christmas shopping. Volunteer guides are often available to help you identify Minsmere's varied wildlife.

We were warmly welcomed by the staff on our arrival at the Visitors Centre and given a full explanation of what was what (we've never been before and are not 'bird watchers') We went through to the cafe and had a very nice scone and cup of tea. The shop and cafe are just great. We hired a pair of... More

Good variety of walks, coastal, woodland and Heath. All hides are a good size overlooking marshes. Good shop and nice cake at the cafe. Well organised and maintained and enough interest to keep children happy. The circular walks are about 1.5 to 2 miles long each, so a short stroll or a combination to make a longer walk.

I visited during the summer holidays with my 3 children to see if they would enjoy the open air rather than the laptop/pc at home. I organised a 3 hour guided tour with Derek in the morning, and a 4x4 safari with Ian in the afternoon. Now this time of the year is a quite period in term of burd... More

Myself and my husband went to Minsmere a couple of times during our weekend in Suffolk. The staff were so helpful, and clearly tailored the information/guidance they provided to the amount of birdwatching experience you had (not all that much!). The countryside in the reserve is beautiful and varied (sea, woods, marshes etc). On the first day we did the... More

We were greeted by helpful the RSPB team & given a map and a list of what we were likely to see if we were patient and keen eyed. Lovely varied habitats with well marked walks. We did the shore walk before it was the full heat of the day but we found some shade, a breeze on the shore... More

We didn`t find the reserve very easy to find - the SATNAV took us all over the place and we were surprised not to see brown signs to it. However, once we`d found it there`s plenty of parking and the different areas, toilets, shop, café etc are well signposted. In spite of it being a rather overcast, cool day for... More

We visited Minsmere on a lovely sunny Saturday. The first thing I would advise is it's not easy to access without a car. However there was a huge car park and good sign-posting to the centre. On arrival the staff were friendly and took time to explain the routes. We set off on the first route which took us along... More

We're so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit. We certainly agree that binoculars are useful for spotting the birds at Minsmere, but they're not essential for an enjoyable walk in beautiful countryside. This is especially true in summer when our insects take centre stage, and you can enjoy many hours watching butterflies, dragonflies, bee-wolves and other insects, often... More

Having been to wildlife resorts in other countries with far more birds, we were a bit dissapointed and thought that the price was a bit high, too. They even have extra charges for kids activities like pond dipping. Driving to the reserve wasn't exactly fun as the road we came on was extremely narrow. However, we were stunned by the... More

We're sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your visit to Minsmere. This season in which you visited, as some of our birds can go "into hiding" in summer, once the breeding season has finished, while others are moulting and harder to spot. However, Minsmere is much more than a bird reserve, and summer is a superb time for... More

My son loves this place and I must admit, I do to. Free for RSPB members, but still worth a paying visit if your not a member. We've managed to see a bittern and an otter swimming in the wild, amongst other great wildlife. An excellent cafe, to grab a bite to eat in. Can't wait for our next visit... More

Thanks for your feedback. We love Minsmere too, and we can't wait to welcome you and your son back to sample the cafe's delicious food. Will you be lucky enough to spot the otter again though? More

Have wanted to visit for a long time and this place didn't disappoint, free if your a RSPB member but if you have to pay then extremely good value as you can easily spend a full day there. It offers loads of different variety with woodlands, wetlands, reed beds, meadows, beach and coastline and much more. As well as the... More

Thanks for your review. You certainly timed your visit to perfection as the swamphen disappeared the following day. Of course, rare visitors like this are an added bonus, as you can see much here on any visit. We look forward to welcoming you back to Minsmere soon. Perhaps your good luck will continue and another unusual visitor might arrive. More
