- Neil TCambridge, United Kingdom16 contributionsEssential preparation for a visit to Gobekli TepeVery interesting and well laid out museum covering local finds from neolithic, bronze age iron age right up until the ottoman era. You could quite easily spend hours here but it is most useful as an introduction to Gobekli Tepe and Karahan Tepe and the similar sites in the area. There is even a scale model of one of the Gobekli Tepe enclosures you can walk around. Other highlights include the oldest sculpture of a man and sculptures from Nevalhi rescued before it was flooded. As a bonus there is a public bus which leaves hourly from a stop behind the museum to go to Gobekli Tepe and costs 27 TLVisited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 7, 2024
- LagunaGypsyVail, Colorado672 contributionsImpressive but OverwhelmingI visited the Sanliurfa Archaeology and Mosaic Museum and was seriously impressed by the scope and depth of the collection. The museum houses an incredible array of artifacts, many of which offer insight into the region's ancient history. The mosaics are particularly stunning and well-preserved, showcasing the artistry and craftsmanship of past civilizations. That being said, the sheer volume of artifacts on display was overwhelming. It's easy to lose track of time as there’s so much to take in, and I found myself a bit overloaded by the end of my visit. If you're someone who loves archaeology and history, you’ll be in heaven, but I recommend giving yourself plenty of time to explore, or planning multiple visits if possible. Despite the overwhelming amount of information, this museum is a must-see for anyone visiting Sanliurfa. It really gives you a sense of the deep history of this region, from Göbekli Tepe to the many ancient civilizations that have passed through.Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten September 21, 2024
- Sebastian TerneusQuito, Ecuador63 contributionsThe best plan if you visit Sanliurfa cityGreat museum for history and archeology lovers. It’s great to complete the experience of archeological sites like Gobleki Tepe and other because they show the original pieces found there. They have different spaces that start on the earliest periods to the latest. I think is a must visit if you are staying in Sanliurfa. The museum shop is not as big as others but you’ll find nice things. The ticket is €10 and you can pay in cash or credit. The ticket let you visit the archeological museum and the mosaic museum but the same day. If you want to visit both museums I recommend to star in the morning. The Urfa statue is one of my favorites with the gobleki tepe pieces.Visited September 2024Traveled soloWritten September 30, 2024
- mashie44Belgium154 contributionsGo before visiting the sites. To staff -- please turn off/down the music!Superb museum, best seen before Gobekli Tepe. 5 stars for the collection and presentation, But one star taken off because throughout our 4 hour visit they played very loud music, the same three tunes again and again it seemed - including the dying swan from Swan Lake and 'All by myself'. The music was unbearable, I don't know how the staff stay sane. It sounds ridiculous but this really affected our enjoyment of an outstanding museum.Visited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 11, 2024
- Daydream2265112 contributionsGreat museumMuseum is very good, I suggest it. I was visiting both, Gobekletepe and museum, I think better to start with museum, but its not bad vice versus. Just make sure your museum app is downloaded if you are interested in audioguide. But if not for extra 100 tl or something like that you can get audioguide in museum.Visited January 2025Traveled soloWritten January 8, 2025

If you are in Urfa and interested at all in history, this place is a must see. There are some of the best preserved artifacts from Gobekli Tepe, Karahan Tepe and other truly ancient sites. The museum is well planned and takes you on a journey through the ages, showing the different cultural periods, including the Bronze Age, and the Assyrian and Babylonian periods in nearby Harran. The sheer amount here is almost overwhelming, and for lovers of ancient history, it is a joy. The same ticket also gives entrance to the nearby mosaic museum.

Do not miss a visit to the Sanliurfa Archaeology Museum when visiting Gobekli Tepe. All the amazing sculptures from the site
beautifully displayed. The museum is designed to guide the visitor on a chronological tour of this important region of Mesopotamia from earliest prehistoric finds up to the Islamic period. An extremely well-designed and informative museum!

This is in fact two museums, one including the Halepbahce mosaics where the standouts are the mosacis of Achilles and his life, the African with the zebra and the Amazons including a wonderful depiction of Melanippe.
From there we go to the massive archaeolical museum, housing exhibits from the nearby sites of Goblekitepe and Karahantepe, as well as Balikligol man, the 1 meter 80 statue which is the oldest in the world. This museum has such a wealth of very old exhibits and ends way before most museums getting going!

This museum has a nice collection. It's huge and you will likely want a break. But be careful, because they have a scam going on. If you want to go to the museum cafe and drink water, you don't have to leave the building but you do have to go through the turnstile. After an hour, we wanted to get some water and even talked to the security guard before doing so. We drank some water in the museum cafe and asked to go back in. We showed our ticket/museum card and they remembered us. They said sorry, you "exited" (went to the cafe inside the museum) so you can't go back in unless you pay money and BUY ANOTHER TICKET. They said if you wait 3 hours you can use your Museum Card to reenter (a rule of one scan per 3 hours, I guess?), but if you don't want to wait, pay cash and buy new tickets for you and your family. The staff all seemed to think that was a reasonable solution to this problem, and this has clearly happened many times before. They could have opened the gate and let us go back in but told us to buy second tickets instead. Museum Director Celal Uludag is a great archeologist but unfortunately that is not the skill needed to successfully manage a museum and its staff. None of the staff speaks English and they have zero training in customer service; what a shame. I should add that the layout on the upper floor goes for hundreds of meters without any place to exit and go back to the ground floor. You have to walk all the way back to the beginning or walk till the very end of all the exhibits, so 10+ minutes either way. It means taking a break is extremely inconvenient. We passed another group of Turks desperately trying to figure their way out of that place. Poorly designed by people who obviously didn't have museum layout experience.

Excellent museum on the trip we had to Gobekle Tepe. This is a must wee to clarify a lot of the items and see a full size replica of the temples that you can actually touch and take photos. The cost of course was minimal and i did get the guided tour on the headphones, which was exactly the same as the display signs and verbiage written in English. There is also a mosaic museum included in the price which was a bonus and was very nice. We went on an extremely hot day and the air conditioning was struggling to keep up it seemed. The museum is fantastic inside, but a little scruffy and unkept at the front entrance which seemed strange.

The museum is huge, modern, wonderful and very rich in priceless artifacts. Being so close to Gobekli Tepe, it has a large are dedicate to it, offers replicas of its T-shaped stone pillars as well as artifacts which cannot be properly preserved at the excavation site. Everything is well presented and explained and we were lucky to have few other visitors around, so we could take the time and try to imagine how it may have looked and been like back then, whether in the Neolithic or the Islamic periods...
A wonderful museum, not to be missed...

Since the recent archaeological discoveries have been made in the region, there is so much incredible materials found from various ancient periods. So many well preserved mosaics from the Roman period depict a very rich and exuberant part of the local cultural heritage, it is mind-blowing. They did an awesome job in building the museum around these findings and it is a world-class museum.

This museum is excellent and the right spot to start our tour of sites in Sanliurfa. The museum is laid out to walk you from the Mesopotamian era through the islamic era and everything in between. It really set our bearings for the rest of our tour including the Necropolis, Gobeklieteppe and Karahanteppe.

These are two different museums a bit close to each other. But only one ticket will suffice. The Archaelogical museum is arranges based on the different eras on Sanliurfa and is well made. The Mosaic museum is one big hall with major mosaic. But if you want to see a good Mosaic Museum, go to Gaziantep one which is much more bigger and better.

Spent two hours here looking at all the exhibits and it was well worth it. Urfa is at the centre of so much history. The museum is walking distance to other wonderful attractions such as the Mosaic Museum and Balıkligöl/Abraham's Cave. The building itself is a striking piece of architecture.

It has moved and is now located across the street from the Hilton Garden Inn. I don't remember the hours, I was there last Tuesday.
