This is a 2116 m2 mosque from the 15th century. It was started by Sultan Emir Suleyman, finished by Sultan Celebi Mehmet. It is 100 meters from Selimiye. Another must see after Selimiye. It is considerably quiet. Go inside, sit somewhere and talk to god in whatever language and religion you prefer. You will feel you can reach.

Edirne, just two and half hours drive west of Istanbul, was the former Ottoman Turkish capital. Despite being an easy day trip from Istanbul, this relaxed town has surprisingly
few tourists.

Eski Camii or Old Mosque, as it is more commonly known, though the smallest of the 3 mosques we visited, was our highlight of the Edirne trip. It was built during the early part of the 15th century of cut stone and brick. The two most striking and unique features of this mosque, which made it our highlight are the -

1. red and white voussoirs on the double arches, similar to La Mezquita in Cordoba
2. fascinatingly large works of Arabic calligraphy on the pillars and interior walls, dating back from the second half of the 19th century.

Definitely worth a visit while visiting Edirne

Outside it is not as impressive as the nearby Sinan masterpiece. Yet the interior is one of the most interesting in Turkey, Old Ottoman mosque architecture involved multiple columns than supported domes, these columns are decorated with beautiful calligraphy in three different styles

famous for its large calligraphy - spend some time looking at the ceiling and walls/columns. Headscarfs recommended for women

Interior design and calligraphic decoration are great. It's close to Selimiye mosque and the bazaar.

The caligraphy inside on the walls are similar to Ulu Mosque in Bursa. Don't miss visiting there, it's worth!

Right in the center of the city, this is a must-see in Edirne. The painting in the domes is very traditional but in the arches it looks very modern. Kind of a strange mix, but it works. From a very different period than the Selimye mosque.

Eski Camii ( Old Camii) also known as Ulu Camii, is the first Imperial building that was built by Ottoman Sultans. Commissioned by Sultan I. Suleyman, the construction started in 1403 and completed by Sultan I. Mehmet in 1414. Although it has went through several renovations through centuries the multi domed , Classical era mosque has survived in its original form to this date.

The mosque'sinterior walls has spectacular calligraphy, has two minarets one with one the other with two balconies.

The mosque is located in the historic part of Edirne in the city center. for visiting you should watch out for off prayer hours, which is three times at the period where you can visit at day lite and lasts about half an hour ( longer on friday noon mass). Head scarf for ladies and no bare arms or shorts are allowed. You have to take your shoes off yet there are shelves insidewhere you can put them.

Unlike most of Imperial Ottoman masjeeds which usually has one huge dome, this was built with 9 smaller ones. Eski Cami is the most unique compared to the other two masjeeds in the close vacinity, Selimye Cami and Üç Şerefeli Cami.
