About
Stadhuismuseum conveys the story of the historic city of Zierikzee and her surroundings. The museum got her name from the building it is housed in, the former city hall. 'Stadhuis' being the Dutch word for city hall. The city Zierikzee, which experienced its heyday in the middelares, was shaped largely during this period. The houses, buildings and even our monumental building take you back in time. The architecture, the modern collection and the possibility to learn more about life in Zierikzee and the surrounding region all contribute to the experience. Visit Stadhuismuseum Zierikzee and travel through the story of Zierikzee. A day trip to Zierikzee is not compleet without a visit to the Stadhuismuseum.

My wife and I visited this museum to learn about the history of Zieriksee. We received a very friendly welcome from the volunteer receptionist with an explanation of what we will see. The contents on display were limited in scope but interesting. Explanations mostly in English as well as Dutch were helpful to us. We found the free printed guide somewhat difficult to follow as well as the suggested routing though the 3 floors.
Many of the exhibits had small reference numbers beside them but no writing index at all as the what the object was. Perhaps there is a more expansive guide available?
One big advantage for us that, on a Saturday morning, we were the only visitors at the time and we did not have to share the space with lots of others so had time to gaze for as long as we liked! We left a little disappointed as the experience was not so enlighting an enjoyable as our visits to museums in other Dutch towns.

Didn't expect too much of it but we were happy we stopped by. The museum tells a lot about the history of Zierikzee. The building is the former town hall and is also very impressive. The collection contains different paintings, sculptures, ship models and one of the oldest kajaks in the world.

This museum is housed in a magnificent old town hall with an old weighing house and meat hall. It tells about the siege by the Flandriens during their war against Holland. Many items from medieval and later times are on display in one room on the first floor. I think they deserve more space, and it would be convenient to have descriptions near the items, rather than in booklets in every room. The rooms themselves are nice, particularly the top floor with its large wooden ceiling. The bones of mammoths, rhinos and giant sharks are quite interesting. In spite of the large kayak, I did not notice a real eye-catcher among the items, which would be required for an 'excellent' rating.

A beautifully preserved museum that is looked after by people who really enjoy what they do. We were given a guide, which was explained and then we walked around. The guides are other languages as well as Dutch. The signs that hang around the museum are in English and in Dutch.
The café does amazing teas and coffee, as well as snacks.

In a special building tells the story of Stadhuismuseum monument city Zierikzee and its surroundings. It does this by means of a fine collection. The museum will inform visitors, but also surprise. Culture lovers can indulge in the period rooms. For those interested in social and regional history, there is the large exhibition hall. Here are the highlights from the Town Hall Museum and the Maritime Museum reunited. Particularly the Greenland kayak, kayak oldest in the world. The room is like a great time capsule with the finest items from 1,000 years of history. Here are the three themes together: city, water and land.Highly Highly recommended
