Well laid out and thought out and organized Zoo in Holland, close to the German Border and Aachen. Not many cages, large, free enclosures, where animals can be seen in as close to their natural environment as is possible. We visited recently in winter again, so many animals were active as opposed to our first visit in the summer, when it was hot and many were hiding and sleeping. Nice adventure path for the children to explore through a wood on a wood and rope path. Lovely pet / farm animal area. Good places to eat, a new restaurant looking stylish, also the " older " eating place has now a bigger outdoor eating area, which is covered and sheltered with heaters to warm you up again after the walk around.
The different habitats are great for children to learn what lives and grows there. The walks beautifully laid out and planted, having many interesting water features and little rivers and waterfalls. It is a place that you can visit over and over and discover new things all the time. Highly recommended. Also lots of space to park easily.

Probably the most beautiful zoo to walk through in the Netherlands. Lots of greenery and no cages, only natural exhibits. Not the biggest zoo, we were there for 3.5 hours. There are lots of play areas for the kids, including an indoor dinosaur themed play ground.

The zoo was open with Corona, but you needed to reserve in advance. 2 encloseres were closed, but everything else you could visit. It was very warm when we came, but there were enough places with shades. The animal encloseres were big and they had a lot of hiding spots for their privacy.

Easy to get there by public transport, good organised as far as walking direction and enough space between people in this corona period. Clean, with a variety of wild animals to look at in their natural surroundings. There were some moments when it got busier but it's up to us to keep the 1,5m. distance...

GaiaZOO has a very nice atmosphere about it, thanks to some very careful landscaping with much attention to detail. While not being excessively large in surface, it offers a surprising variety and presents the animals in enclosures that seem to match their natural habitats reasonably well. We went to see the lion cubs and arriving early, were surprised to find all five lions curled up next to a window where you could watch them literally at arm’s length.
Another enclosure I can thoroughly recommend is the one for the Gorillas. In other zoos they often look unhappy, it’s somehow much different here. There are benches opposite the hilly island built for them so you can sit down and observe them at your leisure, which seems to soothe both the animals and the visitors.
The restaurant areas are very nice too, and for families with children there are playgrounds and a pretty “kinderboerderij” with farm animals the kids can touch if they dare. Access to the zoo is by convenient dual carriageway passing right by the large parking area. It is all not exactly cheap, but not only do you get your money’s worth, there are keenly priced yearly tickets that you will certainly make good use of if you live within a moderate distance.

I have visited several zoos with my son already also in the Netherlands. The Zoos in Arnheim or Overloon are of no comparison to this zoo. And then the high entrance prices are justified. But at this zoo?? But lets start from the beginning:
We arrived there shortly after the opening. We had e-tickets and wanted to skip the line. It was not marked where and how we could do that. In the end we chose the very left entrance lane which seemed correct. But there was no one there to scan our tickets and no machine to do so. After 5 min or so a very young female person with a mobile in her hand scanned two e-tickets of the persons in front of us and then went away and let everybody else in the lane enter the zoo without checking the tickets. We could have saved ourselves 30 Euros of entrance.
When you enter the zoo together with the other trillion visitors you feel like you are at a fair. It was crowded and loud inside the zoo all the time. There was almost no place to releax at all. After passing many enclosures without animals or at least they could not be seen we took the round route through the zoo. We saw the usual animals...nothin special. Nothing that would justify prices like this.
The reasons why I gave 2 stars are the thought-through concept with the round-route and the good food in the Africa lodge.
Everything else was not worth the money and I consider this day I spent there a waste of time. In that Dino-hall despite all the noise and the lack of any alive animals except the bug near the coffee machine my son played there a while and we sat down for a coffee from a machine for 2,50 Euros. In the Africa lodge the coffee would have cost us 2,60 Euros with service and better quality.
I can surely not recommend this zoo. Try the Zoo in Overloon or Arnheim. They are much better.
Last but not least the parking ticket cost another 7,50 Euros.

My son and I used to take a weekly trip to the zoo here. We loved it. It was fun for him to see the animals and play in the big inside park, which was great on warm days. We dined over the giraffe pit and had a great time every time we went. It is definitely worth a trip if you are visiting or if you live in the area.

Really special. Entry through a brilliant natural area. The whole place is themed on biomes and biospheres, hence the name Gaia. Dinosaur area would drive a normal kid to extreme happiness. Dad's like me also get a secret pleasure viewing the life size brachiosaurus and T Rex. Special mention of waffle joint Sequoia, pictured. Modest looking but tasty and friendly.

GaiaZoo is a very modern zoo set into a small stream valley and parkland. The animals have good facilities here and they make a relaxed and natural impression. The grounds are meticulously maintained, the rather high entrance fees IMO justified. If you plan to visit more often, you can buy seasonal tickets that make it much more affordable. The one issue that is giving me some grievances is wheelchair access. For independently moving wheelchair users this park is a lot more difficult than necessary, and several clear design decision to put visual effects before ease of access made me really angry. For instance the lack of accessible toilets on the restaurant level.

We did not experience the same as some other reviewers, as we visited the zoo during a cloudy day. After purchasing discounted tickets on a coupon site, we decided to explore the zoo. Parking and a map was an additional 6 Euro. If you can, park outside the zoo's parking lot. Many locals do. A map is not needed either. Just follow the paths to view the various exhibits. Even though the weather was not ideal, the zoo was crowded that day, especially the restaurant and square around it and it was challenging squeezing through the crowd with a stroller. They do have a great variety of animals and exhibits. Kids will enjoy the playground and obstacle path.
