After visiting the compact exhibition about the "Hidden Village" in hotel "De Vossenberg" in Vierhouten, we traveled, depending on the satnav, into the woods behind Vierhouten, to visit restored houses of the "Hidden Village", created half underground and camouflaged by ordinary people of Vierhouten, to hide Jewish families, hunted by the German occupier in WW II. These ordinary people also provided these families with food and other necessities, disregarding the danger of arrest. These long forgotten heroics come to life again in the exhibition in "De Vossenberg" and the actual spot in the woods. Worth a visit.

We went cycling a few weeks ago and came across "het verscholen Dorp" which is located in the middle of the woods out of sight so they could not be found during the war. You can enter the shelters and get a good idea of how life must have been then,

former World War two hiding place with reconstructed huts.
A interesting place to visit during a cycle tour in the environment. The 'village' is hidden in the Woods near a dead end road called 'pas op weg'. The signing to the village is good.

Very impressed by the story of het Verscholen Dorp! I read the books written about this place, then it is more heart touching when you visit the place! Especially when some relatives were involved in this marvelous work!

Impressive that this was possible in that terrible war. And very sad how things turned out for the people in hiding.
