We took the cable car up to Riederalp to have a wander around the car-free village. Was really peaceful with hardly a soul around. The views across the valley were stunning. Also had a quick look into the church in Riederalp, which was beautiful.

A place where the air can be called air! As the village is included into the Aletsch glacier park (UNESCO protected area), it is completely no petrol! You reach it by cableway from Morel, down on the valley where there is a wide (bit expensive) parking. No cars, no lorries, electric heating. Plenty of different tipe of trecks, from very easy ones till "adventurous ones". From Riederalp you can take another cable to reach different, fantastic view points on the glacier. To see the glacier is a thing, in my opinion, anyone should do at least once in a lifetime. Majestic, imposing, impressive! One feels the strenght of nature. Something very rare nowadays.
Watch out at the timings of returning cable, IT ENDS AT 4,30 there are no evident english timetables at the station, we had to go back walking, which turned out to be a fantastic walk but... better to know it, in case one is not a mountaineer!
Generally seaking, the only problem aroud there is that if you don't speak german you are a bit lost (I speak franch, english italian and spanish)

A lovely car free village reached by cable car or gondola. The views over the glacier are beautiful and it is a great place to start the day skiing with mostly very quiet runs. Pistes are well groomed and in the main there are very few queues with lots of places to eat. The small hotel and restaurant at the top of Riedefurka has a new restaurant extension and is a great place to stop.

RIEDERALP lies on the southern flank of the largest glacier in Europe: the Aletsch glacier. Despite the calling card, the town has kept an absolutely authentic swiss identity and never gets over- crowded.

Car free, at 1950 meters above sea level and bordering the UNESCO world heritage site of the Alesch, it's mountains, forests and wildlife , Riederalp is the unmissable place to go for families, nature and outdoor activity lovers.

The views are breathtaking and can offer 360 degrees overlooking a dozen 4000 meter or higher mountains such as the Matterhorn, Mont-Blanc, Jungfrau, Weisshorn, Monte Rosa to name a few .

Facing south , sun is plenty and clouds seldom settle for too long.

Take suncream no matter which season.

Walked from Bettmeralp to Riederalp after swimming in the lake, something I've always wanted to do but obviously not in the winter.
I will definitely return in winter to experience this magical place. Even with it been summer there was still a lot to do as Riederalp has a Golf Course and entertainment for children.

What more can you say...
If you love nature and appreciate natural beauty, a visit to car-free Riederalp / Bettmeralp is well worth a visit. Certainly recommend going for a rental of an apartment if staying a while and considering location, not too expensive.

The location on a sunny slope is very nice. I really enjoyed the possibility to go on winter hikes. Quite a small and calm place.
