We went to Palencia just by chance, just knowing that the cathedral was one of the main attractions but we never expected to meet such a beautiful cathedral. The cathedral is a little bit hidden in the city, not in the very heart of the city, but still in the centre. When you look at it from the main square... More

Beautiful architecture and wonderful interior. Much larger than you might imagine. Allow a good hour to take it all in and also walk all the way round it!. An ancient place of worship that has relevance today.

This building has nearly the whole history of Gothic architecture in its fabric. One excepts the earliest Northern French, but everything else is here, even the transition towards the Italian renaissance, and the beginning of the baroque.

An example of an old, splendid gothic cathedral. Just one as you may find only in Spain. You need to pay an entry fee but do not hesitate - it deserves the expense!

A quiet and peaceful cathedral without the normal crowds and with enough to see to keep us interested for an hour or so. The carved limestone screen behind the choir was particularly beautiful. The only negative was that nothing was written in English, nor were any English speaking tours offered.
