About
Every week, vendors peddle local crafts and handmade goods in the charming town of Teguise, the former capital of the Canary Island. Here you'll find local artisans and a wide range of items from pottery, baskets and jewelry to local wines and cheeses. Bargaining is expected, so be sure to haggle. There's a celebratory atmosphere at the market with traditional Canarian cuisine, live music and entertainment, but be wary of pickpockets. Visit early and beat the crowds, or stick around until closing to score last-minute steals. Consider a market tour by a local guide which includes round-trip transportation. – Tripadvisor

It is a lovely town! The market was really interesting. Also fun to visit the little stores is the centre. The people are very nice and friendly. Be sure you organize your trip in advance - with the bus from the hotel (if possible) or rent a car (parking near the market 1,80€) - or else you can wake up waiting for a taxi in a queue of 100 people in the blistering sun, for at least an hour.

Teguise market in the town of Teguise is situated approx 11.7 km from Costa Teguise.
The Teguise Sunday market is well worth a visit and travelling by public Intercity Bus is easy and reasonably priced.

From Costa Teguise the Intercity Bus (line 11) picks up from bus stops near Hotel Salinas, Lanzarote Garden, Pueblo Marinero, Playa Bastion, Playa Roca, Hotel Oasis then onto Teguise Market.

Buses to the market run from 9am every 30 minutes until 11am.

Buses return journey run from the market to Costa Teguise from 12 o'clock every 30 minutes until the last bus at 2pm , price is 3 euro
Its cash only, no notes above 10 euro and you must wear a mask

It cost us 30 euros each way by taxi from our hotel near Puerto Del Carmen so if you have a taxi full this could be cheaper than doing an excursion. There were 3 us 10 euros each way no brainer to return when we pleased. This market is big and is set in and around the old town square. There were stalls selling food and drinks,, football and t-shirts, leather goods especially bags, souvenirs. There are toilets but the main block was closed and the were 2 others that were not the best - one was out of order and the door didn’t close on the other. There are shops, bars and eateries in the old town away from the market stalls. There are a couple of windmills and a church. Nice place to spend the morning.

Tried to get on the no 11 bus at the hotel Barcelo. But the bus was pretty full when it arrived. No queuing culture among some people so we failed to get on whilst others who arrived 15 minutes after us pushed to the front. We waited half an hour for the next bus only to find, after that wait, that it was going to be another 32 minutes.

We have been on trips to the Teguise Sunday market in previous years and really enjoyed it.
We went on the last Sunday in February 2022 and it was a waste of time. Less than half the stalls were there than in previous years and the ones that were there all seemed to sell the same things. COVID and it’s economic impact has devastated the market. The only artisan jewellery and designer clothes for sale were in the small permanent shops in the middle of Teguise.

Give it 2 years and we are sure it will be worth a visit, but for now, we both felt strongly that our trip was a waste of time and money

Very big market but lots of stalls selling similar items and varying prices so look around before buying, also barter with them as they look at you and quite a price they think you will pay.
Long queues for the toilets as you would expect.
If you wan to eat look up some venues and pre book as they all get busy.

We weren’t expecting the market to be quite the same with COVID still out there but despite the hit and miss reviews we always like to visit just for a look . Yes there’s tat and junk but amongst these stalls there’s always something of interest including local delicacies. A run out in the hire car and a tapas nearby passes a few hours in this lovely mountain village ,although a normal day without the market is just as nice if not more leisurely. We had felt extremely safe on our latest visit to the island with all the measures in place to keep us safe . However this all went out of the window at the teguise market. We parked as usual in the nearby car parks for the day and relinquished 1 euro 80 for the privilege. We expected the market to be spread around as usual but on walking into town we found a huge queue if people all huddled together waiting to be corralled into the square . No social distancing and everyone made to take a temperature check before entering the compact square where everyone had been directed. There’s probably a good reason for this course of action by the authorities but we couldn’t understand why they had decided to try and squeeze everyone into such a small area. Yes there was a one way system but why oh why didn’t they spread the stalls around the town as usual and dilute the crowd.
Sorry but on this occasion we decided the risk wasn’t worth taking and along with many others we gave the market a miss and left to have lunch elsewhere .

Went on an excursion to the Sunday Market in Teguise centre which cost 19 Euro each. The number 11 bus goes there on the Sunday and costs 2.50 Euro each. Takes about 20 minutes to get there by excursion and the bus. The market is worth a look but we found that, compared to other street markets in Spain, it was rather disappointing. No negotiation on prices and most of the goods were priced exactly the same on the stalls. Interestingly, some of the goods were cheaper in the Costa Teguise shops. Lots of Artisian stalls which were quite interesting. This market was much larger before the pandemic so was not expecting it to be huge but this was smaller than expected. Would not revisit.

We have visited Teguise Market twice before. It is a lively and fun market with a wide choice and variety of stalls. Since COVID all the stalls have moved out of the town, up to the arena area just behind the church, removing some of the charm and atmosphere of the market. We were disappointed by this but understand and support the reason for the decision.

I was very pleased by the number of good value, authentic silver jewellery stalls to browse and made some lovely purchases.

Recommend it to anyone who likes a good market.

Teguise is a really nice town with some interesting historical elements. The market takes place on Sunday. There are lots of stalls but most have the same selection of clothes, jewellery and 'genuine' fakes. There are relatively few stalls with local handcrafts. Prices vary a bit for the same items so shop around. Contrary to the tourist blurb very few of the stall holders are prepared to haggle over price.
Its an interesting way to spend a Sunday morning but don't expect any major bargains
