About
Every week, vendors peddle local crafts and handmade goods in the charming town of Teguise, the former capital of the Canary Island. Here you'll find local artisans and a wide range of items from pottery, baskets and jewelry to local wines and cheeses. Bargaining is expected, so be sure to haggle. There's a celebratory atmosphere at the market with traditional Canarian cuisine, live music and entertainment, but be wary of pickpockets. Visit early and beat the crowds, or stick around until closing to score last-minute steals. Consider a market tour by a local guide which includes round-trip transportation. – Tripadvisor

Lots of English food vans we had a steak baguette and a cup of pg tea.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 4, 2023
- Edel G3 contributionsA huge market worth going toLovely market, a lots of stalls and a good mixture of the cheap knock offs and beautiful handmade local crafts. Plenty of food stalls aswell. Also some lovely local shops there with prices much cheaper than at the resorts. Only bad point was trying to get a taxi, overall chaos, no proper line & it was mixed in with bus line so no-one knew where they should be, people skipping and jumping into taxi's causing rows. Would be good if organisers would have someone there to help with that.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 15, 2023
- Pam FNorthwich, United Kingdom43 contributionsFun but know your prices! It was fun to wander around but not a 'flea market' as described. Most items we saw were cheaper to buy in shops in the resort. The local bus made transport cheap and easy - don't bother with a pricey tour bus.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 31, 2023
- nimrodnmAberdeen, United Kingdom115 contributionsDecent experience but not much worth buying. Was nice to escape our hotel/resort to see the town, but the market itself was quite disappointing. Very repetitive and nothing too original at any stall. Most things for sale you can easily pick up at the shops in resort, and often cheaper there than at the market.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 1, 2023
- BILLYVILLANBirmingham, United Kingdom165 contributionsWorth a VisitWorth a visit if you are in the area. Has a good vibe but gets very busy by mid-morning. Suggest getting there early to beat the crowds. It is also worth going to the historic centre of Teguise with its superb church and old buildings. Tip - If you are intending to travel by local bus then go to the first stop on the route as they get very full and you may not be able to get on. We were on the first bus out and it only picked up at 2 stops and then took a detour missing out all the others because it was full. It's a bit of scrum getting on the bus at the market to get back as wellVisited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 28, 2023
- Tara M17 contributionsAuthentic, not plastic.Amazing! The only town we found in Lanzarote with actual culture and not Barbie land of all inclusive resorts. We found a lovely tapas bar there with a great atmosphere and some amazing art studios turned galleries. Beautiful.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 28, 2023
- Brian MUnited Kingdom32 contributionsLovely Town and Good MarketTeguise was a huge surprise. It felt like we were in Mexico or in a desert border town in Morocco. There are many charming buildings which we'd been starved of: all we'd seen were the white new'builds of Anglo- Costa Teguise. Lovely architecture and a charm and grace in this former capital. The market was full of good leather goods, especially bags, belts, and wallets, maybe from Morocco. Food stall coffers and Mohito stalls. Lots more sold crafts spices and soaps etc, clothes and a fair amount of tat. Allow for the busses to be full, if you haven't hired a car, you might get on the next bus. This market is a big event and exodus on the island every Sunday. It's well worth a visit and be sure to explore the whole town and enjoy the lunar views of the desert mountains.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 15, 2024
- Toon A32 contributionsSome hidden gems to be found!A lot of stands with fake brand items, a lot of them the exact same. BUT: once you walk past it, you’ll find authentic stands with local food and art. Go to the “artisanal” area and you’ll find some real gems from authentic, honest artists.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 27, 2024
- Youngey56131 contributionsAll the same stalls! Not as I remembered it. There were loads of knock off t shirts, sun glasses, handbags and aloe Vera. I remembered more craft items, there were a few but not as good as I remembered from 8 years ago. The town is lovely and very Spanish and the Church is interesting. We had our cheapest cappuccino here at €1.5 with whipped cream on top! We came by coach from our hotel and had three hours in Teguise which was perfect.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 28, 2024
- Daniel CChingford, United Kingdom294 contributionsNo where near as Good as was before…The Actual Area (Teguise) is lovely with a Great Church and old surrounding buildings and nice Square… But as for the market itself this is very poor in my opinion. A few homemade stalls which are quite interesting, some selling lovely Spanish Cheese (quite expensive though) and other crafts. After this I would say 95% of the market is fake (cheap fall apart) bags, crap sunglasses (which unless careful can leave you eyes exposed to the sun’s harmful ray’s), massive fake watches made from cheap metal (and again will probably only last a couple weeks), rubbish belts that always crack after a few times used (3 part made, only leather in centre Not outer). Then like a Scooby Doo cartoon (background when running!) it repeats itself over and over (and over) again! Such a shame because really enjoyed it a few years ago. Oh well… That said if bored and it’s an overcast day and your away for a Week or more then I suppose it’s something to do and like I said the area itself is quite nice. But if only on a short break and the weather’s nice I’d give it a miss and be enjoying myself relaxing in the Sun somewhere… Please tick the box below if if helpful ⬇️ Thanks…Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 4, 2024

Market was smaller than we thought with basically the same items you would get in shops . Although we were happy with the quality of items we bought. But boy on the way home it was chaotic!! We queued from 11 am we were told by bus driver first bus that left was 11 20 , however no bus arrived till 12 by that stage the queue was massive and everyone just charged for the bus no one cared who was in the queue. We were lucky to get on but I wouldn’t recommend it at all it was horrible we were literally squashed as everyone just kept pushing from each side people jumping over the wall to get at front of line it was a disaster. No one there to control queue or barriers

Firstly I have to admit I love markers and I hesitated between leaving a one or a two star review here. Don’t get me wrong. We had a lovely day out but not because of the market! The hype around this being the biggest market on the island caught my interest. But it was extremely disappointing. Why? The stalls all seem to sell the same things. There’s no pottery. No local produce. Also. Be warned. Parking takes time. You can pay to park just outside Teguise and then walk to the market but you may need to queue to do so. So allow time in your visit for this. I expected to enjoy seeing a variety of local arts and crafts. However stalls seemed to all be selling similar products. Many selling cheap plastic and very poor fake designer bags. The saving grace was having a fabulous lunch at a great restaurant. We had been advised to visit Teguise on any day but market day and we are so glad we listened. We went the day before and it was so different . Very beautiful. Maybe there is a “plus or minus” on visiting on market day. You get the buzz of a crowd bringing the town to life on market day but the negative side of that crowd means getting a seat at a restaurant on market day is more difficult. My advise? If like me you love markets prepare to be disappointed. Go for the crowds not the stalls . Or better still. Visit Teguise another day !

We had read in various places including Trip Advisor that the Sunday market couldn’t be missed. We really liked the town, can imagine on any other day of the week its really lovely. We were lucky to go in low season otherwise bet its packed to the gills. There are some great stalls with local artists but there are many more with cheap uninspiring goods. Loads of great little restaurants and we found one close to a guy playing some excellent blues. Fun half day trip, absolutely worth the time to check it out

We weren’t expecting the market to be quite the same with COVID still out there but despite the hit and miss reviews we always like to visit just for a look . Yes there’s tat and junk but amongst these stalls there’s always something of interest including local delicacies. A run out in the hire car and a tapas nearby passes a few hours in this lovely mountain village ,although a normal day without the market is just as nice if not more leisurely. We had felt extremely safe on our latest visit to the island with all the measures in place to keep us safe . However this all went out of the window at the teguise market. We parked as usual in the nearby car parks for the day and relinquished 1 euro 80 for the privilege. We expected the market to be spread around as usual but on walking into town we found a huge queue if people all huddled together waiting to be corralled into the square . No social distancing and everyone made to take a temperature check before entering the compact square where everyone had been directed. There’s probably a good reason for this course of action by the authorities but we couldn’t understand why they had decided to try and squeeze everyone into such a small area. Yes there was a one way system but why oh why didn’t they spread the stalls around the town as usual and dilute the crowd.
Sorry but on this occasion we decided the risk wasn’t worth taking and along with many others we gave the market a miss and left to have lunch elsewhere .

We have been on trips to the Teguise Sunday market in previous years and really enjoyed it.
We went on the last Sunday in February 2022 and it was a waste of time. Less than half the stalls were there than in previous years and the ones that were there all seemed to sell the same things. COVID and it’s economic impact has devastated the market. The only artisan jewellery and designer clothes for sale were in the small permanent shops in the middle of Teguise.
Give it 2 years and we are sure it will be worth a visit, but for now, we both felt strongly that our trip was a waste of time and money

There are lots of stalls, but unfortunately, they all pretty much sell the same stuff (bags, belts, hats, etc.). There was nothing really there that you not buy from one of the Chinese shops from town. Coming back home was hell on earth. We patiently waited in the queue for a good 60 minutes, only to be shunted back by queue jumpers. Even when a man spoke up and told them to get back to the start of the queue, they all played dumb and wouldn’t move. Some people need to learn basic courtesy. If you are staying in the area, it is worth a visit to kill an hour or two, but I would not recommend making a special trip there.

The best market on the island is on every Sunday and not to be missed. If you’re looking for a bargain or some fake designer stuff this is the place. The market is huge and I’m sure we must have missed bits of it. From jewellery to clothing and take home gifts. Lots of leather wear. Plenty of places to eat and drink.
Free entry. Give yourself at least a couple of hours. If travelling by car from Arrecife area you will pass several car parks before getting to the market, each one charges €1.80 for the day per car.

We got the number 12 autobus from bus stop opposite San Antonia hotel Puerto del Carmen it cost about 3euros one way and takes 35 mins. Bus 12 runs every 30 mins from about 9am on Sundays only. The best time to go is 9.30 and gives you 2 hours at the market to look around before catching the 12 noon bus back to PDC. We were warned if you go for a later bus they stop running after 2pm so you might have to get a taxi back which is 30 euros ( if you get 3 others to share thats 7.50 euros each for 4 people). The market is huge and worth a visit selling everything crafts, clothing, belts, ceramics, theres also a few fresh veg stalls etc) its spead across many squares on different levels and surrounding streets. There is a church in the middle - use that as a guide point. There are plenty of cafe and eating areas. Toilets are available. The bus back is at the same drop off point. In Lanzarotte you get on the bus at the front and get off in the middle. This is a Sunday morning market until 2pm.

If you have never been to a market, then go. Ample parking all at 1.80 euro opened in many sites leading up to market. It is just the same stuff you find in every market around the world minus locals doing their weekly shops, as it is really just for tourists.

Don’t do the tour find the local number 11 bus from Teguise cheaper and easy goes every half hour
Go early as it gets very hot. Barter sometimes prices very high (double you’d pay in local shops) some stores very reasonably priced. Hundreds of stalls set over large areas. Toilets food and drink available very busy

Hi, do you have to pay to enter the teguise market or is entry free?
Written June 27, 2024
You don't have to pay, it's an open air market on public streets.
Either get a coach tour or drive yourself
Parking for a car was €2 all day.
A coach tour is around €50.

Bus number 11 suggest you visit Lanzarote bus site for further information or if you are already on the island visit a hotel if you are not staying in one and ask the question. Sorry I cannot offer any further information as we hired a car for most of our stay.
